President Biden on Sunday mourned Orrin Hatch, calling the late Republican senator from Utah an “American original” who fought to make the country a better place.
Hatch, the longest-serving Republican senator in history, died at the age of 88 on Saturday in Salt Lake City.
Biden, who served for more than three decades in the U.S. Senate with Hatch, praised his former colleague in a statement, calling him a “fighter who carried with him the memory of his humble upbringing near Pittsburgh, who never humored a bully, or shied from a challenge.”

Without a teleprompter he wouldn’t even remember Hatch’s name.
I don’t care WHICH CongressCritter it is - they ALL need TERM LIMITS.
Maybe a system of conscripted service for those of us eligible? Fours years each, then OUT!
Yeah. I know. The Gravy Train keeps chugging along for our ‘betters’ that can’t hold down a real job. *Rolleyes*
He’s like the McRib®
No one wore a stick pin better than Orrin.
Thurmond's Republican years (1964-2003) corresponded to a big, eventful chunk of my life. Hatch's years in office were 1977-2019, and the last 20 years of my life were just kind of a blur. It's hard to believe that we're almost a quarter-way into the new century.
But yeah, it's a job like any other, and sometimes you manage to keep the job for decades by doing nothing.
Look at Biden.
Hatch and Biden were best of friends. What does that say about Hatch?
Hatch has been dead over a day now I can bash him.
When I was politically ignorant, I LIKED Orrin Hatch. He TALKED a good game.
BUT when push came to shove, he would cave. All hat, no cattle, Hatch.
Don’t revere the man too much, just because he is now dead.
All is not forgiven just because you are dead. That’s when the consequences BEGIN.
Democrats love to laud Republicans - when they’re dead.
Without a teleprompter he wouldn’t even remember Hatch’s name.
Hatch was an idiot. Sorry to demean the dead but I call them as I see them. He wasn’t much help on the Republican side of the aisle that I can remember but being the person I am, I stand corrected.
Just about all of them TALK a good game but actually DO very, very, very little of any use.
If we were to simply
ENFORCE the laws we have and
MANAGE the programs and MONEY we have and
AUDIT and demand EFFICIENCY and
PUNISH failures and crimes
we would be orders of magnitude better off than we are today or at any time for at least the last 100 years.
Congress is a game and Americans are being played.
If the end product was good, this would be ok.
