Nearly two months after Russia invaded Ukraine, a Russian general described Russia’s next phase of military operations as what may be an invasion of Moldova.
In comments reported by the Russian state-run TASS news agency on Friday, Russian Maj. Gen. Rustam Minnekaev, Deputy Commander of the Central Military District, said the “second phase” of Russian military operations in Ukraine will focus on establishing a “land corridor” between Russia, the Russian-occupied territory of Crimea, and Transnistria, which is a pro-Russian breakaway region of neighboring Moldova.
“Since the beginning of the second phase of the special operation, it has already begun, literally two days ago, one of the tasks of the Russian army is to establish full control over the Donbas and southern Ukraine,” Minnekaev said.
While the Russian military has mainly said the second phase of its Ukraine invasion will focus on capturing the eastern Donbas region, Minnekaev said the operation could cut across the south of Ukraine and link up with Transnistria.

Then it is NOT about trying to made a deal for PEACE, but it IS a violent takeover... Wow.
I call BS. Why would any military man worth his salt disclose on TV his next move?
“And once this happens Romania’s hand will be forced to move due to their ethnic ties to Moldova.”
I agree with you.
But the pro-Russia and pro-Putin FReepers will come up with some excuse to justify moving on to Moldava, at least in their own minds. They are the ones who screamed incessantly about Russia only wanted to rescue the Donbas from the Ukrainian “Nazis.” Now is it going to be to “rescue” pro-Russian “innocents” from Moldovan “Nazis?”
“Russian general reveals plan to invade Moldova next “
Smart move - will probably get Europe and the Bidenistas to realize that they need to SERIOUSLY negotiate an end to this war, and soon.
“Then it is NOT about trying to made a deal for PEACE, but it IS a violent takeover... Wow.”
Of course it is, and always has been.
“I call BS. Why would any military man worth his salt disclose on TV his next move?”
Someone who is confident of success, and who is thumbing his nose at the West.
Everything else was BS.
Yeah unfortunately you can’t reason with folks who have massive idle worship for a shrimp like Putin.
There’s mass psychosis going on around the world.
We’re in a very bad spot on the historic timeline.
I believe they will try to join Transniestria to Russia proper. I don’t know that they will go for the rest of Moldova. But if they did it would be easy pickings. Their army is about 6,000 men.
Only if Romania commits to defend it would they have a chance, and I don’t think they will do it without the backing and permission of the rest of NATO. Which is to say, us.
So true... it's just mast hysteria...and mass hysteria IS the Liberal (fill in the blank: _______________ tyrants’) default mode.
They don’t. More made up gaslighting.
Truman didn't announce The Bomb ahead of time.
Dumb move by a dumb outfit.

There are actually folks here on FR who describe Putin’s invasion of Ukraine as a “liberation”. It really. boggles the mind. And if one accepts that argument, then every war everywhere can be justified.
For example, there are ethnic Swedes living in Norway. Sweden is therefore justified in invading Norway to liberate those Swedes.
Anyway, before the invasion I was actually quite sympathetic to Putin. He had legitimate concerns about NATO expanding eastward. But now that he’s killing civilians to liberate them, he can go to hell.

So, you support bullies getting their way, just because they think they can? After Moldova, then who’s next? The rest of Ukraine, that’s who. And then? Russia’s goal is to take over ALL non-NATO countries that have a border with Russia. Georgia knows that. And Finland sure as hell knows that, and that is why it is seeking fast-track into NATO.
If Romania wants to signal its willingness to defend Moldova they need to do it now. Trying to expel the Russians after the fact is much harder than stopping them from invading in the first place. My suspicion is that Moldova is on its own, and if Russia sniffs that out, Moldova is toast.
“We’re in a very bad spot on the historic timeline.”
I can’t disagree with you there.
Before the invasion I saw value in a Russia that stood outside the globalist network, and I saw value in a band of countries not bound to either Moscow or Brussels (or Washington DC).
But the invasion upset that balance. Putin held all the cards on Feb 23. On Feb 24 he threw them all away. That’s my view, anyway.
A lot of people push the notion that because Biden is corrupt Ukraine should surrender. The Ukrainians themselves obviously don’t agree.
“Anyway, before the invasion I was actually quite sympathetic to Putin. He had legitimate concerns about NATO expanding eastward.”
I think that was a red herring, and an excuse — just as his excuse that he had to rescue innocent Ukrainians from Ukrainian “Nazis” — to invade Ukraine.
If NATO had wanted Ukraine into NATO it would have become a member a long time ago. Hell, even after only a week into this invasion Zelenskyy said Ukraine was not going to be getting into NATO. So, one would think that Putin would have stopped the invasion at that point. But, of course, he didn’t. Putin is after the natural resources of Ukraine, and complete control of the northern Black Sea coast. Just for starters.

Yup.
