Will Russia Attack Poland Next?
American Thinker.com ^ | April 24, 2022 | James Nollet

The Australian version of 60 Minutes recently aired this 17-minute segment about the level of apprehension and preparation now going on in Poland over the possibility of war with Russia. According to it, Poland is taking the possibility of a Russian attack very seriously. The military is exercising near the border, and is actively expanding and mobilizing. And also, ordinary Poles are terrified about the possibility of war, and are making plans how to flee if worse comes to worst.

I disagree. I am an American expat who has lived in retirement in Poland since 2007. Admittedly I live in the western portion of Poland hundreds of miles from the Belarus and Ukraine borders; nevertheless I think I have my finger on the pulse of what Poland is really thinking. I have yet to meet one single person who is at all worried that Russia might attack Poland next. I think Aussie 60 Minutes cherry-picked the most frightened Poles it could find, and falsely made them representative of Poland as a whole.

The first question is, does Putin have any interest in attacking Poland and absorbing it into the greater Russian empire? Theoretically, he might.

There are two reasons why Putin decided to attack Ukraine. One of them, in a word, is NATO. To Putin, but really to any competent ruler of Russia, Ukraine in NATO is a red line, just as Russian missiles in Cuba in 1962 were a red line to JFK. NATO is why Putin attacked South Ossetia in 2008 – to prevent Gruzia (Georgia) from joining NATO – and is why he annexed Crimea in 2014, after the Maidan coup d’etat overthrew the pro-Russian government.

If Putin is replaced by any of the people close to him, then yea, I’d be worried if I lived in Poland. Those guys aren’t going to play nice.

Poland is in NATO so I don’t see Russia crossing that line.

I would suggest the next advance to Odessa, then onto Moldovia (to save the ethnic poor Russian-Moldovians). The only way that Putin’s theme works....is that he ‘saves’ ethnic Russians who left Russia years and decades because of crappy conditions in the USSR/Russia, and he thinks they need more saving today.

If prophecies hold true... “Russia will advance as far as the Rhine”, “the Russian flag will fly over the Vatican” and “America will battle Russia’s secret armies” - Blessed Sr. Aiello.

Russia does not have the population, the economy, or (it would seem) a strong enough military to expand toward Western Europe. I don’t think they will take Poland, or Germany, or France. There is simply no reason for America to care about these things.

I don’t know why we’re assuming Russia is really at war with Ukraine.

It is entirely possible Biden’s plan is to get the EU to start a war with Russia, and then back out of it. Thereby destroying Pax Americana, just as he destroyed the petro-dollar.

Given Russia’s rather pathetic military performance in Ukraine, Poland should be ok.

When this started, I would have thought Ukraine would fall in a matter of hours, not months.

Not likely. But if I were the leader of Poland, I’d keep beefing-up my military, just in case.

This is a setup for China’s aggression against Taiwan and SE Asia. I don’t believe the US would engage in a 2 front war again.

An attack against Poland would trigger Artificial 5 of the NATO treaty resulting in US involvement up to and including nuclear war. Highly doubtful Russia would cross that line.

Poland for many years was under communism. There is nothing good under communist rule. Poland has 1000yrs of history fighting oppression.

Exactly.

Ukraine/Russia is over, just for some Russian mop-up and dealing with that ‘factory’ with an extensive underground of passages for the Deep State’s soldiers.

China has been sending 10-20 aircraft into Taiwan’s ADIZ DAILY for months now. It’s just about their turn for their act on the world stage.

Cuing up China/Taiwan.

Don't forget that Ukraine is the major competition for Russian grain exports. How better to deal with that competition than by a hostile takeover?

It’s a very good article, well worth the read, but reading articles before offering opinions on it are not part of the FReeper tradition.

...and is why he annexed Crimea in 2014, after the Maidan coup d’etat overthrew the pro-Russian government.

leave it to the meddling of our duplicitous CIA / State Dept’s attempt to control the world to inevitably lead to a blowback and war. They’re experts at destabilization.
