A Chinese politics specialist has called the deal between the Solomon Islands and China a "game-changer" saying New Zealand could be cut-off US military support.
A leaked draft of the agreement, which was verified by the Australian government, said Chinese warships would be permitted to dock on the islands and that Beijing could send security forces "to assist in maintaining social order".
The agreement is sparking concern China will look to throw its military weight around in the region.

It’s a military base at the end of a 6000 km supply line that runs through potentially hostile territory. Australia and New Zealand are not the ones who need to worry about being cut off.

Give the Aussies nukes, and tell New Zealand to go to hell, they’re on their own.
China has made no secret that it views Australia as up for grabs...long term.
I would think they would welcome their new communist overlords.

Can you imagine our current military fighting day & night against disease, starvation (often relying on captured jap rice to get food), staying in the line with multiple wounds, frequent bombardment by plane or ship, and fanatic japs for 6 months?
Just the lack of tampons, drugs to assist sex-change recovery, coke & marihuana, and diversity support would cause them to hold up the blue card...
I dont know about Aussies but the PM of NZ would gladly toss the NZers necks to the Chinese boots ...

If war with China, a few nukes and the Solomon Islands are no longer a base. This is serious business and not to be done lightly or in haste. The Solomon Islands only have value to the Chinese in a conventional conflict. Otherwise they are a smoking radioactive ruin. War is ugly and should be avoided if possible. Otherwise, “Cry Havoc and Let Slip The Dogs of War.”

The Solomon Islands are ideally placed to permit a hostile power to interdict air, sea, and cable routes between North America and Australia. We damn sure have a reason to be concerned.
I don’t expect the Red Chinese to build a base tomorrow, but it clear they want the option to do so.
When Japan began building an airfield there, we considered the threat so grave that scraped together forces to launch an offensive well before we were ready.
It’s important terrain, and Chinese influence there is bad news for our security.
