Before his untimely death ten years ago, Andrew Breitbart's most famous quote was "politics is downstream from culture." That concept is the basis for what is called the Breitbart Doctrine, which holds that in order to change politics, it is first necessary to change culture.
Breitbart was partially correct. In a cohesive, functional society whose members generally understand assumptions regarding faith and moral ideals, politics does indeed flow from culture. But more importantly, culture is downstream from religion.
Andrew Breitbart was born in 1969, when the fundamental destruction of the unifying American religious narrative and morality had begun. He could not see that the relationship between culture and politics is not a two-step progression, but two aspects of a self-energizing cycle consisting of three elements of human civilization: religion, culture, and politics. Religion provides the foundation of belief, culture provides the enrichment of knowledge, and politics (the least of these) provides opinion and activism to recalibrate power as necessary to sustain unity.
Religion provides answers for the questions of whence and whither and why to control the self on behalf of society. Religious belief in the significance of life and unchanging truth inspires a search for and participation in that truth, from which flows cultural creativity and engagement, which in turn unifies society and limits the dangers of political struggle.

The murmurs of the old women in the churches are being replaced by the left’s loud clacking of their rosary beads of sex, race and oppression.

What the hell have we done?
We lost this country when we removed the Ten Commandments from the town square. We lost our guidepost.

That’s not new. Gramsci back in the 1920’s posited the same theory, and that’s why Marxists have been intent on changing culture ever since.
Culture is down stream, or the result of history. Civil stasis or evolution is the result of historical precedent.

***Interesting perspective. What I’m running into is that wokesters refuse to apply even the most basic elements of history to discussions. They deny historically accepted facts that both sides acknowledged at the time.
Both sides acknowledged at the time that Jesus was put to death for mere words, for merely claiming He was equal with God, for mere blasphemy , for merely answering the question of His identity before the highest court in the land. That’s the basis of CS Lewis’s “Mere Christianity”.
We cannot even have discussions with wokesters about mere history.
Then show how the premise is incorrect. Until then, your own argument is null.
Also, society is a kind of ‘contract’ among members to work and live in an agreed way. Our politics is the way we refine the contract to accommodate the needs of all members.
Liberals in the US arbitrarily circumvent the established laws and protocols of our agreed system and they invalidate the votes of whole swaths of members.
Looking at it that way, it's annoying when I hear so called ‘experts’ and scholars who talk about society, culture and civilization as if they are all the same then, I get the idea they really do NOT know what they are talking about.
In the US, our culture began as Christian European. If we deny/invalidate that premise, it's going to be reflected in our society. Change is necessary and a good thing, but only if it's change for all and for the better. That's not happening.
So many people who want to trash our culture, don't have a thinkable or a workable replacement for it. They need to broaden their understanding of what has been going on for a couple hundred years in the US.

Politics is downstream from culture. Culture is downstream from PRINCIPLE, not necessarily religion. The principles at the foundation of a culture may be religious, but they don’t necessarily have to be.
There is an interesting book out recently called “Is Atheism Dead?” by
It provides a framework for a new revitalization of religion and culture.
What it shows is that the atheist materialist have proven that God is both Transendent and Immanent. Transendent means that the Universe has a beginning—as with the big bang. The causal force for everything that is understood by physics is outside of physics. That the various 11-32 dimensions and many metaverses that scientists postulate are unproven and unprovable. That even if for example they were able to show that that there were many universes—that would simply set the issue further back in time. That is, what is generating all those universes?
What the atheist materials have also shown is that God is immanent. That is, an active intelligence inserts itself from time in the creation. This is shown by the activity of life: Both is in the creation of life. and the changing nature of life. Atheists will argue that earth was seeded by aliens. But again—that only sets the genesis of life further back in time.
It is these two propositions: God’s Immanence and God’s transcendence that should be the basis of a new paradigm in the universities.
There needs to be a paradigm shift.
