Connecticut’s Office of Inspector General announced on Wednesday that a white state trooper was charged with manslaughter after he fatally shot a 19-year-old Black man after a car chase in 2020.
After an “extended pursuit” on Jan. 15, 2020, the trooper, Brian North, stopped a stolen vehicle and fatally shot Mubarak Soulemane seven times through the car window.
Soulemane, who had been diagnosed with schizophrenia at age 14, was holding a knife when he was killed, according to a report from Inspector General Robert Devlin.

No, but offhand, firing 7 shots into a car through the window, at a perp armed with a knife, seems rather excessive.

Yup. When he was shot the guy presented no danger to anyone.
It turns out it was a knife. Did it look like a knife to the officer? Easy to second guess when it is not your life on the line.
All I know is, after over two years of guessing & second guessing Trooper Brian North, they decided that a man with a knife is not a danger to the police or members of the public. Besides, Trooper North should have known the sorry son of a b(tch was schizoid. Simply by seeing him. Besides that he was black, therefor a protected species.
I think I am gonna puke.

The other officer apparently wasn’t too concerned, he was closer and was starting to open the door when the shooter cop started firing.
If you move the slider on the video link above to 3 minutes, you can see - on the left side - the other officer starting to open the door and jumping out of the line of firing when the shooting started.
Cop at driver’s window fired 7 rounds.
Cop at passenger side window fired maybe four.
His life is going to be hell for some time.
I believe you may be looking at the same scene in different angles.
A man with a knife certainly can be a danger. And in many respects a knife wound is worse than a gunshot wound. But knife guy was sitting in his car, with the door closed. So this does not look like a good shoot to me.
A shiny knife could easily be mistaken for the barrel of a gun. Btw, I have no idea what the cop’s statement says or what he thought.
But to putting 7 rounds thought the window, I’d guess the cop clearly thought he was in imminent danger.
Thought too!
Unless the cop mistakenly thought he the knife was a gun this was flat out murder.
yeah be ause he couldn’t kill anyone from behind the wheel of a car....that he had already been speeding and driving reckless in..../s
Driver’s side and passenger side.
The vid labels the two different body cams with the respective officer’s name.
Ah, I see, I believe the shooting at 3 minutes on the video was a stun gun by the first officer.
The bullets came in the second shooting.
Your comment about how the other officer was in the line of fire is more concerning to me. Shows very little situational awareness. Likely the officer developed tunnel vision and was not aware of his background. The drivers door was blocked by another vehicle so the perp could not get out and directly attack the officer.
In order for the perp to get out, he would have had to crawl out the passenger side. Unless the officer SAW a gun (he might have) there was no need to shoot. Even so, the apparent lack of communication and situational awareness is concerning. This seems to be a failure of training to me.

You’re being /s , but you are correct - he was a danger to no one when he was killed.

I believe that was a stun gun, but still could have been bad.

No one ever mentioned that. And the only weapon mentioned on the video was the knife, which a cop extracted and put on the car hood.
