The Republican-led Florida Senate passed a bill Wednesday that would eliminate a special tax district that has allowed Walt Disney Co. to govern the land where its theme parks sit, as lawmakers target the company for opposing legislation restricting classroom instruction on gender and sexuality.
The measure still needs to pass the GOP-led House, which is expected to approve it. Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis, who called for lawmakers to consider such a bill in a special session he convened this week, has made clear he would sign it.
The measure potentially delivers a blow to the company’s operations in the state. The special district, created in 1967 and known as the Reedy Creek Improvement District, exempts Disney from a host of regulations and certain taxes and fees related to emergency services and road maintenance. It saves Disney tens of millions of dollars a year, according to a person familiar with the company’s finances who studied the issue over a decade ago.

Disney stock is taking a hit right now. I suspect they’ll take a bigger hit if this passes the House and goes to DeSantis for a signature.
I remember Eisner talking how it was adamant Disney policy not to get involved in politics. How times have changed.
Even WITHOUT the Disney peso-LGBTQLMNOP agenda, they should not have special tax status.
Do it, Florida!
While we’re at it, get rid of both CA/FL disney TFR’s.
No reason for a private corporation to have permanent no-fly TFR airspaces over them.
DeSantis is the new Trump without the baggage of old Trump
The Groomers getting hit with a big pile right in the mug. Good for them.
Die commie scum or sumthin.
“Die commie scum or sumthin.”
I guess I’m just hoping that Disney’s shareholders see this and start demanding sensible leadership as opposed to woke leadership.
Some have argued this is The State of FL punishing Disney for exercising its First Amendment rights, although DeSantis is careful not to link this tax issue to the “anti-grooming” bill, despite what the media may say.
Certainly, in my view, politically activist woke companies deserve push-back, but we don’t like it when Conservative big business (are there any left?) suffer similar at the hands of awful leftist governors.
thoughts?
True dat but you know the Marxist “perfesers’” little Snowflakes are doing a lot of dumpster diving looking for trash on Gov. DeSantis. Pretty soon the bass turds will be screaming to see his tax returns and Netflix bill.
All the hundreds of millions(by their numbers)of LGBTQ will go there and make Disney richer ,LOL
Eisner was followed by Iger, who is responsible for most of the crap the Devil Mouse is up to these days.
Yep.
Wonder..when the smoke clears. if there will be any arrest made?
I guess it’s okay to corrupt the morals of minors if you are either a public school and or a huge corporation?
If they passed a special tax on Disney, I’d agree with you, all they did was remove a special exemption that Disney was getting, that I’m okay with. Disney is not entitled to special treatment, they only get it if the people of Florida choose to give it to them, and the people of Florida can choose to withdraw it for whatever reason as they see fit.
