Some have argued this is The State of FL punishing Disney for exercising its First Amendment rights, although DeSantis is careful not to link this tax issue to the “anti-grooming” bill, despite what the media may say.

Certainly, in my view, politically activist woke companies deserve push-back, but we don’t like it when Conservative big business (are there any left?) suffer similar at the hands of awful leftist governors.

thoughts?

If they passed a special tax on Disney, I’d agree with you, all they did was remove a special exemption that Disney was getting, that I’m okay with. Disney is not entitled to special treatment, they only get it if the people of Florida choose to give it to them, and the people of Florida can choose to withdraw it for whatever reason as they see fit.

While l see your point, I am sick of a unilateral culture war. Grooming children is the hill to die on.

“ The State of FL punishing Disney for exercising its First Amendment rights,”

The rights protect us from jail not from interpersonal consequences. Punishing ?

Reacting

Disney does not have special rights. They have a special right to tax status Florida gave them. Disney showed contempt to the state of Fla so Fla takes back the favor

First amendment has zero to do with it.

I pay someone to take care of my kids, they tell my kid something unnecessary and disturbing that’s the end of their taking care of my kid

I wish people would use common sense

If the South had won, we might still be fighting using the rules of gentlemen.

As is, it is time to go all Abraham Lincoln on them: invade and destroy. Treat the big Disney compound as a conquered territory.

It should be at the discretion of the states. States and local governments give tax incentives and enticements to to companies to move their businesses to their states and cities.

It is the prerogative of the states and cities to revoke those special tax incentives at any time and for any reason. And it is the prerogative of the business to move elsewhere if they don't like it.

I am not allowed to exempt my property from fees and regulations by saying “Well, I only use my own resources!”

No company should either.

I can’t buy a new full auto rifle. Local security and PMC’s do all the time.

We decided to make companies “person’s” under the law, yet give those persons special rights and protections.

If I steal or kill someone, I go to jail. Does a large company get shut down (as in all assets seized) for the same?

A liberal retired college professor in Orlando who wrote the book (literally) on Disney’s privileged position in Florida says this move is about time. In essence, he regards Disney’s special rights as an unfair advantage over competing theme parks. And, I must add, from what I know of how it was done originally, Disney and its local allies spread cash and favors about in return for the legislation.

Well, Disney is advocating rolling back a bill protecting young children from groomers in the classroom. Their days of special status are over. JMO.
