Well, sounds like you were busy having fun at college! VHS was a miracle to me. I hated paying so much for popcorn at the movie. LOL!

Love Is Worth the Risk
If you love me, keep my commands. John 14:15
After a friend ended our decade-long friendship without explanation, I began slipping back into my old habit of keeping people at arms’ length. While processing my grief, I pulled a tattered copy of The Four Loves by C. S. Lewis off my shelf. Lewis makes a powerful observation about love requiring vulnerability. He states there’s “no safe investment” when a person risks loving. He suggests that loving “anything [will lead to] your heart being wrung and possibly broken.” Reading those words changed how I read the account of the third time Jesus appeared to His disciples after His resurrection (John 21:1–14), after Peter had betrayed Him not once but three times (18:15–27).
Jesus said, “Simon son of John, do you love me more than these?” (21:15).
After experiencing the sting of betrayal and rejection, Jesus spoke to Peter with courage not fear, strength not weakness, selflessness not desperation. He displayed mercy not wrath by confirming His willingness to love.
Scripture reveals that “Peter was hurt because Jesus asked him the third time, ‘Do you love me?’ ” (v. 17). But when Jesus asked Peter to prove his love by loving others (vv. 15–17) and following Him (v. 19), He invited all His disciples to risk loving unconditionally. Each of us will have to answer when Jesus asks, “Do you love me?” Our answer will impact how we love others. — Xochitl Dixon
Why would a loving God ask His beloved children to risk being hurt for the sake of loving others like Jesus did? How can an intimate relationship with God help you feel safe enough to risk loving?
Loving God, please break down every wall that keeps me from being vulnerable so I can love You and others with Spirit-empowered courage, compassion, and consistency.

We had a thing in the best theater in town which allowed us to get into matinees for two bread wrappers from Williams Bread. The bakery sold a ton of bread, matinee seats got filled, and the theater raked in the bucks for candy, soda, and popcorn.
Between that, and cable, I saw a lot of movies. I was 10 when “Dirty Harry” came out. Watched it a bunch of times.

I’ve never been a passive consumer of tv or movies. I can remember (barely) life without tv. The idiot box had been invented before I was born, but it was a big city thing and ranges were limited. You did not have to be too far out of the city to be out of range. I still remember my dad taking me to see what he claimed to be the first television in town. I of course had no idea what it was, but I can still recall the oval screen with more static than picture.
We eventually got reception, sort of, and I grew up in the era of people putting bigger and bigger antennas on their roofs. My parents eventually invested in one of those tripod masts, which were great for little kids to climb up and fall off of. When I took over the housepainting duties in high school, ours was ideally placed to reach the peak of the roof without having to fool with an extension ladder.
We also didn’t get first run movies until they had been out six months or so, and by the time they reached us, they were usually spliced in a couple of places. We didn’t think anything of it; that’s just the way things were. We also only had one theater in town, so there was no choice. We were not culturally isolated. Cinephiles — and I assume we had some in town, though I didn’t know any — could always jump in their cars and drive 80 miles to Indianapolis to see a first run movie. My parents didn’t get cable until late in my high school years, and they didn’t get a color tv until a couple of years after that.
Life was better in a lot of ways. We had weekly band concerts on Sunday evenings during the summer, put on by the town band. There was an active amateur theatrical scene. Major league baseball was something you listened to on the radio (our station was part of the St. Louis Cardinals network), high school sports were big, and people drove to Bloomington to watch IU lose football games. (That hasn’t changed.) Now people just sit and stare at a box, but folks used to do this stuff for themselves.
Bottom line, I never acquired the habit. For a lot of people today, movies and tv are a big part of their lifestyle. They’ve never been that important to me.

Sounds like you had the ideal childhood in a small town.
Just for the record, my grandmother was the first one in our family to get a color TV...to watch Bonanza! LOL! And you’d better be quiet when that theme started playing.

Howdy, luvie.
It’s a rare occasion I get a perfect score on these quizzes. LOL I saw most of them and the ones I didn’t, I’d heard of. That helped with the guesses. :-)
It was pretty to look at through the windows but still jacket weather outside. Tomorrow, spring returns for a couple of days. Then we have summer through the weekend.
Glad to hear you had one more nice day before the furnace cranks up again.
