Senate Democrat Says U.S. Needs to Discuss Sending Troops to Ukraine: ‘Putin Will Only Stop When We Stop Him’

A Senate Democrat said that the U.S. needs to discuss sending American troops to Ukraine — arguing that Vladimir Putin “will only stop when we stop him.”

Appearing on Face the Nation Sunday, Sen. Chris Coons (D-DE) was confronted by CBS’s Margaret Brennan about comments he made earlier in the week in which he argued the U.S. needs to figure out when it would be willing to send armed forces to Ukraine.

“We are in a very dangerous moment where it is important that on a bipartisan and measured way we in Congress and the administration come to a common position about when we are willing to go the next step and to send not just arms but troops to the aid in defense of Ukraine,” Coons said. “If the answer is never then we are inviting another level of escalation in brutality by Putin.”

Brennan asked Coons, “Are you arguing that President Biden was wrong when he said he would not send troops to Ukraine? Are you asking him to set a red line?”

The senator praised Biden’s “steady and constructive leadership,” but called for the U.S. to stand “more forcefully” behind Ukraine.

Get the whole story on that, He was ordered out by FDR.

Beat me to it. FDR and Marshall recognized the military expertise of MacArthur and ordered him to leave. He probably wasn't as great a general as some of his armchair critics on here, but still...

We’ve already told Russia we will keep providing weapons.

What we haven’t done is said that we intend to make sure Ukraine wins.

The Pentagon spokesman finally said that we want Ukraine to win. Boris Johnson has said that Ukraine must win. But the Biden administration has been ambivalent.

I would just be in the way. So I’m donating. And putting ideas out there to try to bring this war to an early conclusion.

Hell no. A hot war with Russia or WWIII over Ukraine is definitely not in the best interest of the country.

We need a trip wire like in North Korea. Both have nukes. Both will use them if not for a US response in kind.

MacArthur did not leave by plane, he left by PT Boat. You don’t seem to know any history. Too much conspiracy thinking.

Read Nigel Hamilton’s three part history of FDR as CIC, you might learn something. And look up the bio on Adm. Richmond Kelly Turner and his role

Rats were responsible for every War involving the USA since
after Lincoln and until the Bushes.

You were on a role. Just stop while you're still on target.

Bush left the party decades ago. He just forgot to change his
registration.

Gear up. You’ve been drafted, Coons, you’ll be parachuting in tonight. What sh!t.

If you say “never,” Ukraine and Eastern Europe can settle for this schmuck themselves, or not. No mushroom clouds. No fall out. When he loses face, the Russian People themselves will be done with him. And he will lose face. Or grow old and foolish. Or die of natural causes. Whatever. America has bled enough for these idiots.

Forgive me as I’m probably young compared to most Freepers but I’m told that the Democrat Party were always the pro-war party ...
True?

______________________________________________________

It’s a mixed bag. The parties have aligned and re-aligned with various issues over the years. But for every “Big War” like WWI, WWII, Korea, Vietnam, one can find a host of smaller wars Spanish-American, Philippines, Invasion of Panama, Invasion of Grenada, Bosnia, etc. I’d say there is plenty of blood on the hands of both parties. Some of the wars are more justifiable than others, but I’m not gonna get into the pros and cons of each conflict. Suffice to say though that this country has been in a perpetual state of expansion from it’s beginning. Though we officially ended with Hawaii in 1950, we’ve managed to acquire territory for bases in places all over the globe. We may not have always gotten involved in Europe conflicts from the beginning of our country’s history, but we certainly took an interest in expanding coast to coast and then to islands in the Pacific. Eventually, Europe, Asia, and even Africa became vital to “US interests” as Americanism ( a fusion Neo-liberal economics and Civil Rights (now Woke) activism) became a virtual religion to be spread around the globe. There was a time when Americans from both parties could easily be duped into supporting every potential conflict that came down the pike...now the ease of doing so looks to be rather more difficult. Only time will tell if it will remain so.

We sent the weapons. Now, Western Europe who has a vital national security interest, not the US, can send the troops and spill some blood...and we can also send Coons to basic training and, after he finishes, we can ship his ass over there to fight alongside the Euros. Works for me.

If I were Putin, being told that would probably cause me to consider using tactical nukes in Ukraine to get the war over as quickly as possible.

There are a number of things i may disagree on about MacArthur, but Coward is not one of them. I suggest you read William Manchester’ book, American Caesar, the definitive biography on him. Warts and All.

I gave that link because there is a lot of controversy on Admiral Turner and Pearl Harbor. You can also read the autobiography of Admiral William Standley who served on the Pearl Harbor investigation committee in December of 1941.

You really don’t seem to do much research.
