Activists from the western Russian city of Smolensk have petitioned the country's parliament, the Duma, to demolish a symbolic memorial site to the Katyn massacre and a cemetery for its victims, Russian daily Kommersant has reported.
Images posted online showed heavy machinery, bearing the pro-war 'Z' and 'V' symbols, approaching the Katyn monument in an apparent bid to destroy it.
The memorial site and monument commemorate the Katyn Forest Massacre in western Russia, a series of mass executions of Polish POWs, mainly military officers and policemen, carried out by the Soviet NKVD security agency in April and May 1940. The killings took place at several locations, but the massacre is named after the Katyn Forest in western Russia, where some of the mass graves of the victims were first discovered.
Kommersant wrote the petition calls for the Katyn monument to be demolished but the graves of Polish victims to be left untouched. The signatories argued that Poland's position on the war in Ukraine justifies "the truth being set straight about Katyn."

The situation as usual mislabeled by propaganda. The equipment was moved to the site to mock the Polish savages demolishing similar Russian monuments in Poland. They didn’t demolish a thing.
Americans won’t defend Christopher Columbus, Robert E Lee or our founding-founders. Maybe Americans should go defend others history, people and borders all over the world?
Good job, Brandon.
The only savages are Putin’s thugs comitting genocide. You are warped.
Such nice people, the Russians.
Murder a few thousand Poles, blame the Germans, deny guilt for decades, oppress and murder the Polish people for half a century, and when they side with the country Russia attacks try to desecrate the graves of the people they murdered.
Classy move, Russia.

A little bit off-topic isn’t it.
When my husband was in Poland on business a client gave him a DVD of the movie Katyn. It is excellent and now on youtube free.

Russia never admitted to the massacre until 1990, and refused to call it a war crime or mass murder. When Polish President Lech Kaczyński’s plane went down in 2010, he was on his way to commemorate the 70th Anniversary of the Katyn Massacre. All 96 people on board that flight perished in the crash.
Where are the Heroes of the Russian Navy, NV? You know, the ones who didn’t blow up their own missile cruiser because the Ukrainians didn’t sink it?
Shouldn’t you be busy setting up the ceremony in Red Square and arranging transport for all the proud mother, fathers, wives, and children of the sailors who heroically blew up their own ship to save it from the Ukrainian missiles that never hit it?

What does Nikki say about tearing down the monument?
“...to mock the Polish savages demolishing similar Russian monuments in Poland”
Interestingly, after liberation, the Norwegians made a point of demolishing the Nazi memorial to those lost when the Blucher was sunk on April 9, 1940. Were the Norwegians ‘savages’ for doing so?
Up until I watched the movie a few years back, I had never heard of the Katyn Massacre.
It is their country and they are free to do whatever they wish. I have no idea why there is outrage over the above news, especially given that nothing is getting demolished in this case.
Same here, the movie was very well done.
Can you just give it a rest. I know Fake Easter isn’t til next week, but some people don’t want to hear your tripe over the Holy Weekend.
LOL.
The NKVD did to Poles what the FIB would like to do to Trumpsters.
” Were the Norwegians ‘savages’ for doing so?”
In the eyes of the Putin puffers and other fascists, very much so.
The only good Russian is a dead one.
As Patton said, we’re going to have to fight these bastard savages eventually.
I doubt the Russian monuments in Poland are “similar.”
They were monuments glorifying the communists, weren’t they?
