Former President Trump joined President Biden in calling Russia’s war in Ukraine a “genocide” during an interview with Fox News on Wednesday night.

While Trump was slamming Biden for policies he said has led to record-high inflation, he commented “and now, add to that, what’s going on in Ukraine. That’s a genocide.”

The comment comes a day after Biden accused Russian President Vladimir Putin of genocide on Tuesday.

I’m starting to think he’s a bit overripe.

I think Trump is wrong on this. It may be a political calculation, but even that would be disappointing. How is this any different from what we did in Libya, Iraq or Afghanistan?

I wonder what President Trump knows that the western media is hiding. All the western media reports is crazy, sick Putin getting his $ss kicked.

Well, here's a bit more context then:

Trump elaborated on his comments later in the interview with Fox News host Sean Hannity, saying “This is a genocide that’s taking place.”

“We have the strongest, most capable nuclear anywhere in the world because of what I did,” Trump said, reiterating his claim that Putin would not have invaded were he in office.

Trump said the U.S. has a more powerful nuclear arsenal than Russia and “people shouldn’t be pushing us around.”

“I think in 100 years people are going to look back and they are going to say ‘how did we stand back and NATO stand back,'” Trump said.

It is very different. Russia has always moved populations around. They moved the Tatars out of the Crimea and later Ukraine allowed their return. Russia forced out and removed those who resisted their “separatist” movement in the Donbas. They moved many of their people in going back to the Holodomor (and who can deny it was genocide.)

Biden’s already walked that back (or rather his people did as damage control), Trump would have been wise to let Biden hang out to dry all by himself.

It is very different.

No, no it is not. You've been dumbed down so much by propaganda that you no longer recognize your own hypocrisy.

Probably not.

One of my problems with Trump is that he always seems to be trying to appease or even curry favor with his enemies by adopting their lines. And in this case, he’s making such a shallow statement it doesn’t seem that he’s given it any real thought at all.

Also, I think he’s probably trying to distance himself from Russia so that the Dems can’t go back to their Russia, Russia, Russia hysteria. Trump is always thinking about Trump and not necessarily about either principle or reality.

The first definition that comes up on Google is this: “the deliberate killing of a large number of people from a particular nation or ethnic group with the aim of destroying that nation or group...” I don’t think that the Ukraine situation fits this definition. Opinions will vary. I am guessing that President Trump is watching too much Hannity, who nets out as a plus to the conservative movement but isn’t particularly swift.

The war will probably be over by the time Trump runs again but if he pushes some idiotic war for Ukraine he’d lose my vote.
