Vova Klever, a young, successful fashion photographer from Ukraine’s capital, Kyiv, did not see himself in this war.
“Violence is not my weapon,” he said.
So shortly after Russia invaded Ukraine in late February and Ukraine prohibited men of military age from leaving the country, Mr. Klever sneaked out to London.
His mistake, which would bring devastating consequences, was writing to a friend about it.
The friend betrayed his trust and posted their conversation on social media. It went viral, and Ukrainians all over the internet exploded with anger and resentment.

No problem. Move to the USA and become a DemonRAt Senator.
“No problem. Move to the USA and become a DemonRAt Senator.”
I remember when Draft Dodgers were scorned here in the disUnited States.
Then in 1992. we elected one president
This war is obviously unwinnable for Ukraine, it would be a suicide mission to sign up for it. Azov battalion has been caught killing those of draft age (18-60) trying to flee. When you resort to killing those who refuse to participate, well that’s not a good sign that things are going well.
Probably wouldn’t want him in a foxhole with you anyway. Still, he’s forfeited his freedom. No place for him on earth.
Deserters have been punished for centuries by winning armies, so I would not take this as any indicator of how well their side is doing.
Well technically they aren’t “deserters” since they never signed up for it in the first place. Draft dodgers would be the correct term for them. And in this particular instance I wouldn’t blame them for not participating, the war is unwinnable for Ukraine, and anyone with any sense knows this.
yep
While I wouldn’t hesitate to defend my country under most circumstances, this is (supposed to be at least) a free country and I will decide the terms under which I do that.
The men in the Ukrainian band Jinjer stayed behind in Kyiv and raised over a $140,000.00 from thier fans for humanitarian aid. That has paid for a lot of food and water for dislocated people and has paid for medical treatment for injured civilians. There is more than one way to serve your country.
I should add that Zelensky ran on the platform that he was going to pursue a peace deal with Russia, and after being elected, did a complete 180 turn on that campaign promise. So I would imagine that many Ukrainians aren’t happy with Zelensky’s decision to go to war, and want no part of it. If Biden were to start a war, I wouldn’t be signing up for it either.
You're definitely imagining a lot of nonsense. Ukrainians know Putin invaded and is responsible for starting the war in Ukraine. Zelensky popularity among Ukrainians is at an all time high as is Ukrainians volunteering for the military.
If volunteers were at an all time high, why then are they desperately seeking foreign troops to join them? The number of Ukrainian troops is a tiny fraction of the population and those numbers haven’t been adjusted upwards since the war began. Ukraine’s population is 40 million, if they had just 10% signing up they’d have a formidable army of 4 million, but they don’t - they only have the 2 million they started with. Their draft age population is 18-60, which means MOST Ukrainians eligible want no part of this. Your pro-Ukraine propaganda is a joke.
its not a draft, and its not even conscription.
Ukraine Government decided in late February - all men can’t leave the country. That’s it.
I can’t blame him for not wanting to die for the grand-schemes of DC neocons or Hunter Biden’s cocaine habit.
Ukraine is only accepting new recruits, foreign or domestic, who have military experience. Ukraine had so many volunteers, they handed out all their rifles and military bulletproof vests. 66,000 Ukrainians came back from abroad to volunteer for the military. There is even a Ukrainian joke going around- Who do I have to bribe so that I can get a gun to defend this country.

Its not a good sign your cause is worth fighting for either.
Yes, its bad when Russian elite paratroopers refuse to go to Ukraine.
60 Russian Paratroopers Refuse to Fight In Ukraine — Reports
Paratroopers from the area were sent to Belarus days after Russia invaded Ukraine on Feb. 24, the outlet wrote Wednesday. They reported that a large number of soldiers were returned to Pskov and fired after refusing to fight — with some also threatened with criminal prosecution for desertion.
Local activist Nikolay Kuzmin said that he had spoken with a driver who helped transport troops back to Pskov, and that he had corroborated the story.
Pskovskaya Gubernia later wrote that military sources expect the number of servicemen refusing to fight in Ukraine to rise significantly. “Our sources tell that commanders now won’t accept any resignation reports,” the paper said. “Many servicemen send them to the military prosecutor’s office instead.”

“So I would imagine that many Ukrainians aren’t happy with Zelensky’s decision to go to war,”
Russia invaded Ukraine, NOT the other way around.
“Your pro-Ukraine propaganda is a joke.”
Same can be said of your pro-russia propaganda.
Zelensky pursued a peace deal with Russia for a long time. But eventually it became obvious that Russia would only sign onto a deal that denied basic sovereignty to Ukraine and put them in a position to be invaded. At some point you have to decide if you’re Chamberlain or not, and you should always for for not.
