There seems to be seething anger in the world today that seeks someone to attack. It is a world where there is little room for redemption or forgiveness. It's a one-and-done trial. You have a visible sin, and it's over. Like the gladiators with swords to the neck of their defeated opponent, they look to the coliseum masses for a verdict. The thumbs-down condemnation seems unanimous. There is no mercy to be had.
Maybe two years of being cooped up in our homes for fear of COVID has left us easily enraged by those we deem evil and deserving of our wrath. The media, eager to draw our attention to the mistakes and sins of others to improve ratings, use any "sinner" they can find to capture viewers and feed our appetite to have someone to hate. Whether it is a politician we dislike, a law enforcement officer who goes too far, a fellow citizen who dares try to defend his community, or even an offended Oscar-winning actor who slaps a comedian in front of millions of viewers, we may not want blood, but we do want to destroy their reputations.
Our country seems to be majoring in condemnation. Whether it's former President Trump or resident Biden, with a polarized electorate, the faithful followers do what they can to bring their opponent down. When an officer in a scary moment of confrontation makes the wrong decision and it is captured on video, we want his job-we want him convicted and locked up. When a citizen brings a gun to town to help protect his city from rioters and chaos reigns, there is no room for mercy. And when Will Smith slapped Chris Rock at the Oscars, millions piled on to the outrage.

The Democrats are driven by fear and hatred. They’ve modelled their ideal society based on those all important emotions. To be a victim is their greatest aspiration, and to accomplish that all they need is a villain. So if you’re not a Democrat or a Leftist, you’re it! It doesn’t matter if slavery was banned over 150 years ago by Republicans, you are now a slave owner to be feared and hated. If you own anything, you’re a kulak to be feared and hated. It doesn’t matter the reason, all that matters is the lie.
The Buddhist version:
“Let he who is stoned cast the first sin.”
In other words who wants to brand someone with the scarlet letter? SHEESH!
CHILL!
Not as good an example of forgiveness as you think.
The situation with the adulteress was more complex than depicted above. It was an attempt to trap Jesus and condemn him either by Old Testament Law or Roman law. Under OT law, both parties caught in adultery were required to be brought forward and stoned. But this crowd brought only the woman, and didn’t even mention the man’s situation, so already the law was being broken. They wanted Jesus to say she should be stoned, violating the OT because the man also wasn’t condemned, but also violating Roman law because the Jews weren’t allowed to do capital punishment without the permission of Rome. So he’d be condemned by both the Jews and Rome. Or, if Jesus said she should be spared, then he’d be in violation of OT law, and condemned by the Jews. So it was the perfect trap, per the accusers, to take down Jesus.
Instead of falling into their trap, he seemingly ignored the situation, putting them ill at ease, and then began a morality lesson to these sinful people trying to destroy him. He said, “Let he who is without sin cast the first stone.” And then the people, after they thought about it, began to leave, with the oldest (wisest, most experienced, most sinful?) leaving first.
Jesus still hadn’t addressed the elephant in the room, the adultery. When no one was left except him and the woman, he asked her where her accusers were, and said there were none. And he responded that he didn’t accuse her either, as he wasn’t a witness (except by divine knowledge) and she hadn’t been convicted by the law. At no point did he excuse her lifestyle or sinful behavior. Instead, he said quite forcefully, “Go, AND SIN NO MORE.” (capitals added by me).
Thank you for the post Kaslin.
I’m puzzled sometimes by these preachers and wonder what they would think Jesus would say about the sinner who continues to sin because there are no consequences for that sin. Some sinners take advantage of Christians faith/forgiveness and use that as a battering ram to destroy that faith.
To me there’s a fine line between forgiveness and being a sucker.
This is just setting up for when the backlash inevitably comes for the Dems over EVERYTHING from Covid to masks to shutdowns to grooming to cancel culture. They’ll want to be “forgiven” and when they are not, they will use the Bible against us to call us hypocrites, fake Christians, etc…. “Why can’t you forgive us for the ENORMOUS mistakes we made? The Bible says you’re supposed to turn the other cheek! Waaaah!”
Eff that
All true. There is no mercy. No justice. No righteousness...except for those found in Christ. There is coming very shortly complete retribution for those who have placed all of their faith in the only wise God. That is the only thing that is true. Seek Him while you are still breathing oxygen because the time grows shorter each day.
Good grief, WHO CARES WHAT MOVIE ACTORS DO? Can we just move on from this dumb crap? Everything that comes out of Ho11ywood - EVERY SINGLE THING - is corrupt. There is no “right or wrong” issue with Ho11ywood. It’s ALL WRONG and it ALL LEADS TO THE DESTRUCTION OF NORMAL HUMAN VALUES AND THE DEGREDATION OF HUMAN SOCIETY.
The best thing to do with play-actors is ignore them. They need you. You don’t need them.
Always conveniently left unquoted when trying to excuse behavior.
“Our country seems to be majoring in condemnation.”
That is the key message of today. Everyone is offended, and everyone claims innocence, yet, everyone is guilty.
Exactly so.
It doesn't help their case that they could barely suppress their glee/maliciousness/hatred while "sticking it to (enter named enemy here)".
They are demons…not humans. Undeserving of ANY forgiveness.
Back in the 1800s, actors were considered as mere prostitutes. Nothing more.
Yep. And let’s face it: That’s what they always are. You gotta know what a “casting couch” is, right?
This one guy who played drums for a band I was in, he and his gf were into this “glam” thing and they were constantly brown-nosing people in the acting biz and trying to get them to come to our shows. One day we were sitting around drinking beer and I started laughing because this one promoter-type guy, wannabe B4rry F3y, had got really, really upset because I turned him down for a “date.”
“ARE YOU NUTS?!! YOU WILL NEVER, EVER, EVER MAKE IT IN ENTERTAINMENT IF YOU DON’T DATE THESE GUYS WHEN THEY SHOW AN INTEREST IN YOU!!!”
So now we’re sort of in this “Caligula” phase of our civilization where these prostitutes become rich beyond all belief and extremely influential beyond what someone would reasonably expect from someone who spends all his time pretending to be other people.
They’re a bunch of mangy hookers all passing around the same set of herpes virii and acting all smug and superior about it.
Good summary.
As a Christian grows older, they ought to become more and more aware of the unfathomable depth of God’s grace and mercy. And their need for a Savior.
Yep, I dabbled in the entertainment industry in my teens and early twenties. I got Wise pretty quick and left it.
I still like playing guitar, but for me and the wife and close friends only.
Haha, yeah, you’ll also find out that being a guy isn’t a deal-breaker for most of these “promoters” or A&E or whatever we’re supposed to call them.
If you don’t put out for them, they blacklist you.
