Rape exceptions to abortion bans were once widely accepted. No more

WASHINGTON — As conservative states enacted stringent abortion bans in recent decades, there was one threshold they were loath to cross: Abortion was nearly always allowed in cases of rape or incest. It was a veneer of acceptance embraced by every GOP president from Reagan to Trump, and even the strongest abortion foes, that a woman should not be required to carry a rapist’s child.

Not anymore.

Just as states may be on the verge of regaining expansive authority to outlaw abortion, eliminating rape and incest exceptions has moved from the fringe to the center of the antiabortion movement.

In 2019, Alabama gained national attention by passing a state law banning all abortions with exceptions only for lethal abnormalities and serious health risks to the patient.

This is BS. First of all, if you are raped and you WAIT SEVERAL WEEKS BEFORE GETTING MEDICAL TREATMENT AND THEN FIND OUT YOU ARE PREGNANT AND "NEED" AN ABORTION - sorry, but you're a suicidal idiot.

This is a story the Democrats like to pimp, like there are all these unfortunate women who get raped and then - weeks later - find out they are pregnant. And THEN they won't let the poor things get abortions!!!

How often does that happen? NOT THAT OFTEN. Like ALMOST NEVER.

A woman who is raped reports the attack and is given medical care at a hospital or clinic. When the nurse is talking to you, she will ask you if you are afraid you might be pregnant. And if it's an issue, she will hand you a RU486 pill (the "morning after pill") with instructions for use.

One of the reasons GOP is fighting abortion now is because there are so many pills, shots, and other things to prevent pregnancy, hardly anybody has an excuse to wait anymore. If you don't want a fetus growing in you, you can stop it in any number of ways.

There is no cop in the hospital monitoring rape victims to make sure they don't get abortions. That is insane and ridiculous and THE LEFT KNOWS THAT.

Sure, as a rape victim you might end up in a hospital where they won't offer you an abortion pill if requested. Go to Planned Parenthood - the last time I checked, they were still in business - and THEY'LL give you the damn pill.

This has always been and always will be nothing but bu11sh1t. Democrats show their HATE FOR WOMEN by spreading these lies.

Note: Of course you may believe that the morning-after pill is wrong, too, but that's a separate issue. I'm just pointing out the Democrats' irresponsible, manipulative lies.

Or a minor being abused by a family member...?

Reagan's only exception as president was "Life of the mother". The lefties in Ireland used that to include the mother claiming to be suicidal. Now Ireland is completely down the tubes, and is due to sink into the ocean any time.

“This is BS. First of all,...” Of course it is. It is the L.A. Times after all. Better to never read it and keep your IQ high, than read it and get cotaminated, or worse, dumbed down.

The baby is not at fault for its reason of conception.

And undergoing an abortion is not going to heal or help the incest victim.

Put Mr Incest to death. Let the baby live.

Those evil conservatives are doubling down on the side of life. I’m waiting for the L.A. Times to wag their finger at the liberal slide into infanticide.

It’s a compromise that should have never been made.

Either you believe the unborn child is a unique human being with natural rights, or you don’t.

Imagine if our notion of justice in bank robbery, for example, was to execute all of the innocent bystanders who happened to be in the bank at the time.

This will end up harming the pro-life movement by giving the Democrats an opening to lie during the election by positioning their candidates as centrists. There is no getting around the fact that a failure to offer exemptions in the case of rape and/or incest is an extreme position. Personally, I think the GOP and pro-life movement have been infiltrated by Lefties who are putting poison pills like this in legislation that the GOP will be blamed for.

I agree with this completely. Cutting a baby to ribbons as an answer to a rape is inhumane.

Just 1% of women obtain an abortion because they became pregnant through rape, and less than 0.5% do so because of incest.

***A woman who is raped reports the attack and is given medical care at a hospital or clinic.***

After care is given, a simple vinegar and water douche has worked for centuries to prevent pregnancies.

The book EVERYTHING YOU WANTED TO KNOW ABOUT SEX (But were afraid to ask) says a Coca-Cola douche also works.

And that’s why Planned Parenthood needs to go: Because they facilitate abuse and trafficking of minors. If a 12-year-old girl is pregnant, the last thing she needs is people offering her an abortion.

If it wasn’t for Planned Parenthood, it would be a much easier task for - say, schoolteachers - to identify a minor who is being sexually abused. But today the abuser only needs to hook up with Planned Parenthood. Problem solved! Get that little angel an abortion.

Actually when I clicked on the article for the first time I expected the paywall popup. I waited for like 30 seconds. I was surprised when it didn’t. Usually I can’t read anything on the LAT.

Yes. A responsible nurse is not going to lecture a rape victim about moral issues. S/he fixes the problem. Nobody goes trailing around after a rape victim to make sure she doesn’t get an abortion these days. It’s ludicrous that the Left keeps pushing this nonsense.

Notice how they leave health care providers out of the feedback loop?

Doctors and nurses all work for the government, now! They need to keep their noses out of it now and make sure everyone gets “jabbed.”

You’re right and I mostly agree but again: With medical science at its current stage, there is little to no need for a rape victim - or anyone, really - to have an abortion if she seeks medical care right away. No health professional is going to sit there and laugh at a rape victim who is worried about pregnancy! They will help her out.

As I pointed out in another post on this topic, making abortion available to minors who are being abused and trafficked, as we have seen, makes the problem worse, because the abusers simply take advantage of that to hide their crimes. That means they can keep abusing the same kid and if she gets pregnant, no problem! Take her for an abortion and party on.

“Personally, I think the GOP and pro-life movement have been infiltrated by Lefties who are putting poison pills like this in legislation that the GOP will be blamed for.”

Yeah, isn’t that the truth? Haha, turncoats and saboteurs in the GOP is a favorite topic of mine.

One thing that caused me to change my mind about abortion and the Constitution and so on was a discussion I had with a friend once. I was arguing for abortion in cases of minor abuse and using that poor gal Jaycee Dugard (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kidnapping_of_Jaycee_Dugard) as an example.

I said, “That man kidnapped and raped a little girl and she had two kids by him, all by herself in a shack on his property!”

My friend said, “And how would having an abortion have helped her, exactly?”

It is what it is with abortion laws and I figure the Supreme Court will sort it out hopefully in a good way protecting the unborn at least allowing states to make laws if they want to protect human life in the womb.

You’re joking, right? The two kids make it a hostage situation, because its harder to escape with small children and babies in tow. An abortion would put her in a room, in a clinic, away from the kidnapper, where she could escape.

I feel very sorry for any woman who was raped and finding out that you are then pregnent must be devistating.

You are STILL not allowed to kill the innocent party.

You are, (I can't believe this is necessary to say) also not allowed to kill any of his other children, his siblings, his cousins, his parents or his pets.

Because they were not the people who comitted the crime against you.

I would happily deliver your rapist to you, hand you a dull rusty blade and tell you to have fun.

But I can not allow you to kill the baby.

I know it is horrible. But killing babies is wrong.

Always.

Its not about clear cut right and wrong because life doesn’t work like that, particularly when dealing with criminals. Its about doing the best you can with a flawed set of circumstances. Presumably, rapists and incestuous relatives still have parental rights, correct? Should they be deprived of parental rights? Wouldn’t the argument then be about the evil women trying to deprive men of parental rights by accusing them of rape?

That’s not the case a lot of the time. Surely you have seen the “project veritas” videos with people pretending to be pimps trafficking minors, who are checking about abortions for their “girls”...? There probably are cases in which the quick-thinking abortionist alerted the proper authorities upon realizing that his patient was a minor - but probably not a lot. The typical abortion provider is either A) a disgraced doctor who can ONLY work in the abortion industry, B) a bad doctor who graduated at the bottom of his class and just wants to make money, or C) both. Do you know of any of the abortion clinics that have closed in Texas as a result of the new laws? They are filthy horrors with poorly-trained or, even worse, unlicensed staff.

Planned Parenthood urges young girls to get abortions without telling their parents. That’s where their heads are at. And if some criminal brings a little girl in who’s pregnant, they consider it just and moral to abort her child, take the money, and say nothing. (And then sell the fetal remains for cash.)

Criminals like Garrido - with a prior conviction for rape - and his freak wife don’t take their victims to responsible health care providers, anyway. They take them to scungy criminals who will keep their mouths shut and let the crime continue.

Jaycee Dugard’s daughters were probably the best thing that could have happened to her in that situation. She played with them, sang to them, and taught them to read and write. Now she is free and has two beautiful daughters after her ordeal.

How could you even say that? A girl of 12, 13, 14 being brought in for an abortion by a way-older guy is not going to say “Help me escape.” Maybe sometimes, but not that often. The kidnapper wouldn’t even take her off the property if he thought she might try to run. Duh.

Also, it seems like you never had to do business with Planned Parenthood so you don’t know what a bunch of lying, criminal scumbags they are. Lucky you.
