Along the same line, another song that truly soars!
Dream On by Russ Ballard
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c8meFUW59SU
Oh, when I was a kid
I still see what we did
We were always on the run
It would seem
That you had a dream
Then you could be anyone
I remember one day
An old man passed my way
He looked at me and he said:
Boy don’t you cry
You reach for the sky
Boy you look straight ahead!
If you know what you want
And you know how to get it
Don’t let any man
Let you forget it
If you know what you need
You won’t regret it
Dream on
That’s what I say
You dream on
Till love comes your way
You dream on
And as time went by
As a man and I
Would love and I would hide
Love to me
Was so easy so free
With no concerning, and no burning inside
And then one of those nights
In the city lights
As the boys and me, we ran wild
She looked at me
And his words I could see
As plain as when I was a child
If you know what you want
And you know how to get it
Don’t let any man
Let you forget it
If you know what you need
You won’t regret it
Dream on
That’s what I say
You dream on
Till love comes your way
You Dream On
Sometimes the greatest battles are within one’s own heart / soul.
This song did a lot to keep me from going off the rails... :-)
“Hold Your Head Up” (Argent) is another.

One of Warren’s finest.
He may have enjoyed this one as well:
Thompson - Bojna Čavoglave

three minutes, twenty seconds.
More along the lines of what I think you were requesting (and not mentioned yet, I think):
Behind Blue Eyes - The Who
Won’t Get Fooled Again - The Who
Wanted Dead Or Alive - Bon Jovi
Stealin’ - Uriah Heep (personal favorite)
Pilgrim - Uriah Heep (2nd half of song, about a conqueror who loses it all))
The Magician’s Birthday Party - Uriah Heep (epic fight vs. evil)
Hit Me With Your Best Shot - Pat Benatar (well, “combative”, anyway!)
Lunatic Fringe - Red Ryder
White Hot - Red Ryder (About a gun runner - not an exact fit here, but a GREAT tune!)

Good one
Rebels. Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers
The Ballad of Hurricane Carter.
Good tunes there; I haven’t listened to Argent for years. Thanks
Awesome cover, never heard these gals before. Thanks
Interesting. They were around in the early 90’s.
Got to spend a week with Kerry (and a bunch of other CCM types) on a cruise ship in 1990. He was great to hang out with at the Midnight Buffet.
Well I don’t go out of my way to search out new to me music. This thread has been a source of outside my realm music for several years now and I am grateful for it. I just would rather hear my equipment running or the sounds of nature than to use the multitude of channels available to just have background noise going. I watch movies but couldn’t tell you who plays what part on 90% of them and it gets that way with music. I could have heard a particular band before but didn’t take the time to figure out anything about them. I did buy the new anthology of “Baby” when it came out. A 70’s band from Amarillo, TX. Pretty good rock there.
Nice.
Have a friend the age of our youngun who has directed me to Tool
