In 1927, Edward Hickman committed one of the most heinous crimes in the history of Los Angeles when he kidnapped a girl on her way to school, held her for ransom, and then murdered her. Shortly afterwards, he was caught. At that time, the state didn't fool around and let the case drag out for years on appeal. In less than a year after he committed the crime, he was executed at Folsom Prison by hanging.

Vernon Dalhart, the most popular singer of the 1920's waxed three discs about the case. Here are two of them.
