A major power outage has hit Puerto Rico, leaving hundreds of thousands of the island's residents in darkness after a fire erupted at a power plant.
The blackout, one of the biggest in recent months for the island's crumbling electrical grid, prompted frustration across social media. "Apagón!" many wrote, using the Spanish word for outage. Luma, a private company that took over transmission and distribution of Puerto Rico's Electric Power Authority last year, described it an island-wide blackout.
However, the state power company's website said about 360,000 customers out of nearly 1.5 million were without power.

“Dress rehearsal”
My first thought, too. A post right after this said that China is targeting India’s power grid.
Too bad the ricans ran the US Navy out in the early 2000s....they may have been able to help out.
Since that I have had very limited empathy for that island.
not to worry...there’s Bitcoin...
You are a notch or two above my zero empathy for that island.
I have some history there and have less empathy than you.
Tens of thousands without water, too...
I’m surprised that democrats have not condemned the word ‘blackout’ to describe a power outage. If they did condemn the word, ‘blackouts’ would never occur again.
Yeah, bummer. No power in a tropical paradise in spring. Hope the beer doesn’t get too warm.
When this happened during the Trump administration, the governor of Puerto Rico instantly blamed Trump.
Later it turned out that thousands of portable generators had been sent to the island, and they were hidden away in a warehouse.
The MSM was instantly on the scene to broadcast the governor’s accusations, but when the generators were found the MSM was elsewhere and couldn’t be bothered to report the story.
Someone stole the maintenance money of course
Big deal...It’s 82 degrees. No one is going to freeze. It’s just inconvenient.
Their wet season is just beginning.
It is a wonder.
PR is a disaster.
Every other island nation nearby is a wealthy vacation paradise.
PR should be Queen of the Caribbean, but instead it is a welfare whore...............
Give them independence or give them statehood. We know what the answer would be here. Any Puerto Rican with a rap sheet should not have a choice as to where he should live.
I spent a week there in 2003 in support of US naval aviation.
While most people I came across were friendly I also saw a big movement to oust the navy because of the bombing range in Vieques.
Shortly thereafter it came to pass.
There’s no telling how many hundreds of millions of dollars that cost Puerto rico......I hope they’re happy.
I saw that a well.... coincidence??
NOT!
