A lawsuit has been filed against the owners of Park City Center in Lancaster in connection with last year's shooting there.
Lucy and Wendy Mendenhall say they were knocked down and trampled as they tried to escape the shooting scene at the mall. They said they suffered severe injuries.
The lawsuit claims Brookfield Properties did not reasonably and adequately combat the risk of violence and gun violence despite a history of crime at the mall.
It says the company chose not to implement a specially trained firearm detecting dog or take other security measures, despite knowing the risk of violence.
WGAL News 8 contacted Brookfield Properties but no one was available for comment. Mall shooting happened in October
Multiple people were injured at Park City Center on Sunday, Oct. 17, 2021.
Shots rang out inside the mall around 2:30 p.m. Four people were treated for gunshot wounds and two other people were injured trying to get out of the mall.
Since then, police have charged Jeremiahs Sanchez, 16, of Lancaster.
Sanchez is being charged as an adult with the following:
Two counts of criminal attempted homicide. Three counts of aggravated assault. 52 counts of recklessly endangering another person. One count of person not to possess a firearm. One count of carrying a firearm without a license. One count of possession of a firearm by a minor. One count of receiving stolen property.
Police said the shooting happened after an 18-year-old confronted Sanchez and a group got into a fight. Police said Sanchez pulled a gun from his waistband and fired twice at the 18-year-old, hitting him in the thigh.
A bullet also hit an uninvolved 30-year-old woman in the arm.
A 50-year-old armed man heard the shots and approached the area. At that time, police said, Sanchez fired another round. Police believe that bullet hit Sanchez and a 30-year-old man involved in the fight in the hand.
Police said the shot struck less than a foot from the armed civilian, who then fired three times at Sanchez. It's believed the shots struck Sanchez on the elbow and hit a wall.
The civilian kicked the gun away from Sanchez and held him at gunpoint until others arrived, police said.
Police said Sanchez's gun was stolen from Lebanon County.

No pity on malls, the blight of the terrain. Here in broward county you almost can’t see anywhere without one. Here a strip mall, there a strip mall, everywhere a strip mall.
I prefered it when it was everglades thank you very much!!!
Before Sawgrass Mills was built, we rode our dirtbikes out there. I saw a deer once. Just stopped and looked. Then it ran off. Wow. Now look at it. Mega strip mall. Oh the city of Sunrise has a 10% mitigation policy. Hahaha.
Jeremiahs Sanchez
May these two leftists go to hell. If they want security, they can buy their own weapons.
What were they doing in such a dangerous mall?
And signs. Don’t forget those no guns allowed signs that were ignored.
If only there was a law against stealing guns this never would have happened. So we now need to make a law so nobody can buy a gun that could be stolen. It would solve everything and the unicorns can come back. /sarcasm
If they knew the mall was dangerous, why were they there? Lawsuit is going nowhere IMHO.

I ignore the heck out of no gun signs. They don’t carry the force of law here, it is a mere request, if I am “made” and they ask me to leave, and I don’t, only then do penalties apply.
No way I’m not carrying my pocket mouse gun damn near everywhere.
So was the guy that responded shot by police?
Nope...DA (a female, no less) cleared and commended him.
...which would all be deemed racist if implemented.
