Riley Gaines, the Kentucky swimmer who tied transgender swimmer Lia Thomas for fifth in the women’s 200-meter NCAA championships last month, still does not have her trophy.
Gaines appeared on Senator Marsha Blackburn’s “Unmuted” podcast last week, and recounted what happened when she tied Thomas.
“I touched the wall and saw that there was a five by my name, indicating that I got fifth, but the first thing I really looked at was who won because I was so curious who would win the race,” Gaines said. “Because, the night before, Lia won the 500-meter. So, more interested than my own self, I was interested in who won. I looked up and I also saw a No. 5 by Lia’s name so in that moment I realized we tied.
“It was a flood of emotions, really. I was extremely happy for the girls above me who conquered what was seemingly impossible by beating Lia, and it was kind of an array of emotions. I was shocked, really.”
Blackburn asked Gaines if she had her trophy yet.
“No I do not,” she said. “That’s another crazy thing. Once I got out of the water, we kind of go behind the podium to the awards ceremony where they distribute the trophies. So, I walked back there and the NCAA official came up to me and said, ‘Hey, we only have one fifth place trophy’ — which I understood.
“But he said, ‘We’re gonna have to give that trophy to Lia. Yours will be coming in the mail. Great job.’ I was kind of taken aback. I don’t think he necessarily expected me to really question it, but I was like, ‘Okay, I understand, but can I ask why you’re choosing to give the trophy to Lia?'”

There is life beyond Win, Place or Show?
I get so PO’d when the normal girls use the name the mutant gave itself rather than the name the mutant’s parents gave it. IT is NOT a “Lia.”
The correct response is the one the female cyclists are using.
Males pretending to be females will be competing alone.
There was also that photo of the three girls off celebrating by themselves (Places 2-4) and the Mutant Lia off by himself all alone hold his trophy celebrating beating the girls.
they all should have walk out before the meet
This whole thing goes beyond sick and straight into evil.
haha, he finally got beat by a GIRL!
by FOUR girls, to be exact.
He went from #420 in men’s swimming, to be beaten by 4 girls.
Maybe just this once, but still.........
I wonder if he threw the race so it wouldn’t look so bad if he won all the time.
“haha, he finally got beat by a GIRL!
No he didn’t. He’s deliberately losing the race, so as to appear to not be winning because he is a man. He’s throwing the race. Caitlin (Bruce) Jenner (another Trans) on Fox was on to this when “Lia” the male swimmer, phonied an alleged “loss” the first time. He is purposely slowing down so it doesn’t appear he is winning every race because it is bad PR. He (Lia) is doing this on purpose. Don’t be fooled.
“... normal girls use the name the mutant gave itself...”
Glad to see I’m not the only one to notice that. Irritates the crap out of me, too. I don’t see the value in them being PC when they are the ones being hurt by this person’s mental illness. Just a guess but I sense the heavy hand of the NCAA in this.
How do we know he wasn’t sandbagging to avoid more bad press?
Just wait until men-who-think-they’re-women start playing basketball with the real women.
There are fifth place trophies? Don’t even think I’d want one of those.
How bout boxing? MMA? Or wait for it...
Rugby?
I’ve said from the start, if all the real women and girls refuse to race it would stop.
Collegiate women’s sports everywhere should organize separately from the NCAA. The problem with doing this is that they will lose out on the equal distribution of gate receipts from men’s sporting events. This equal division of assets was dictated by the American federal court system. The NCAA board of governors is imposing transgender entry into women’s competition as a protest over having to share men’s event receipts with women’s programs.
