A Sunday op-ed from the Washington Post editorial board called for a public reckoning over the media's handling over the Hunter Biden laptop story.
The editorial is titled "The Hunter Biden story is an opportunity for a reckoning," and discusses what the press should learn from the saga surrounding Hunter Biden's laptop. In particular, the article referenced why news outlets like themselves are now authenticating thousands of emails from Hunter Biden’s laptop when the emails were first reported in 2020. While the editorial board insisted that did not prove any corruption on the part of President Biden, this did raise several questions about the media.
Journalist Glenn Greenwald, who previously slammed the Washington Post for its late coverage of Hunter Biden's laptop, complimented the publication for admitting problems with how this story was handled, albeit with several caveats.
"The Editorial is filled with self-justifying caveats about why it was reasonable to have gotten the story so wrong. It downplays the full extent of the joint CIA/media/Big Tech lie," Greenwald tweeted. "But at least the Post now stands alone in admitting the fraud and that an accounting is due."
Although the Post did not offer solutions or retribution for reports on the Hunter Biden laptop, it did admit fault in suppressing an otherwise accurate and relevant story prior to the 2020 election.
"None of these dilemmas have easy answers. The lesson learned from 2016 was evidently to err on the side of setting aside questionable material in the heat of a political campaign. The lesson learned from 2020 may well be that there’s also a danger of suppressing accurate and relevant stories," the editorial board concluded.

Hard to investigate with you eyes closed tight and fingers in your ears.
They act as if it was an honest oversight. Insane.
This is their Harry Reid moment.
So, to show us the Washington Post is going to go REAL honest reporting, let’s see them cover the CLOT JAB or maybe let’s talk real....about what WAS the FBI doing in the January 6 hijacking.
i.e. they're still in the process of trying to figure out how this can be blamed on Republicans/Trump.
And that post comes from #2 in a ranking of the most vile, lying, self-aggrandizing, and untrustworthy collections of journalists in the multiverse. First place goes to the NY slimes, of course.
I love that they are now having to regretfully print, Mea Shitta, Mea Shitta. (Apologies to the Latin.)
They can say this is a time of reckoning and all that. But, will anything change going forward?
I predict that, going forward, we will see a rush to judgement for any questionable actions or behaviors reported by any Republicans/conservatives, but for any questionable actions or behaviors by Democrats/liberals, they will take the position that we just don’t know the facts yet, we have to know more details before we can run with this story, etc.
The only solution is diversity. The Washington Post needs to hire more conservatives, especially with Reporters and Editors.
Hopefully they get hit in the head with some exercise equipment. Metaphorically of course.
It’s not the “editorial board,” it’s an op-ed.
I guess they haven't gotten to the email regarding 10% to the "BIG GUY". They are still covering this up.
A reckoning, to whom? The NYT doesn’t give a rip about The Public, and its loyal readers lapped that stuff up and shouted for more. Their only problem is that the story is now too big to ignore and harder to control because they did so.
How? They lied before when it was obvious they were lying. What's different now? Is their business model of propagandizing on behalf of prog leftists falling apart?
Reminds me of how Christopher Wray appeared before Congress after the IG report came out showing an appalling degree of corruption in his own agency.
It was enough to make you vomit as he said with the appearance of total sincerity: “Gosh darn it, if I had only known about all these problems. Well its a really good thing we have this report so we can make sure it never happens again.” And then, he proceeded to virtually hold no one accountable.
Not yet it isn’t.
But one day it will be.

Deep down they knew the story was true. They suppressed it because they didn’t want Trump to win.
The excuse they gave to give themselves cover was that they “didn’t think it was true”.
This main media belated admission strikes mw as a ‘handwriting on the wall’ that Dementia Joe will soon be gone.
Admitting it was true and they buried it is a start, but where are there the breaking stories about what is on it?
