Ukrainians have shared pictures of a burning Russian fighter jet they say was shot out of the sky in the Kharkiv region as Putin's forces continue to take heavy damages.
Photos from the scene remains of Russian fighting aircraft Su-35 believed to have been hit by the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
It is understood the plane was shot down by the anti-aircraft missile troops of the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine who shared footage of the incident online.
The Su-35, a hi-tech fighter jet worth an estimated £30million, was reduced to rubble. It is understood the plane was shot down in the Kharkiv region of the country.
Deputy Interior Minister Anton Gerashchenko confirmed the Su-35 was shot down by Ukrainian forces, reportedly writing: '50 million dollars worth of damage for the ogres!'
Gerashchenko reported that the pilot ejected and tried to escape, but was subsequently detained.

Hard to tell from that remains whether its a SU-35S or a SU-27M.
The SU-35S has some impressive updates and getting shot down would seem unlikely. However, Russian doctrine seems to be to use the VKF as a sort of glorified artillery, forcing it to go low and slow, vulnerable to manpads.
And at times, quantity defeats quality on the battlefield. I sometimes suspect that one reason the US has been focused on the quality end of the spectrum for weapons systems, is that it transfers more dollars to the military industrial complex. The expensive weapons produced do not always contribute much to America's defense, as evidenced by the Freedom-class LCS fiasco ...

It was a “feint” to fool the Ukrainians into revealing their SAM locations. All just a clever ploy by the brilliant Russian generals.
Yes, there are some on FR who would believe the aforementioned statement.
Looks like they downsized their army a lot since the end of the Cold War.

The RGF went from a standing army of 800K to around 280K today.
“They’ll end up shooting down airliners soon.”
As long as they’re Russian airliners I’m okay with it.
L
It’s an SU-35.
David and Goliath
Of course, once again the “good guy” Ukraine is showing pictures of captured POWs. Maybe no one ever translated the Geneva Conventions into Ukrainian?
“Looks like they downsized their army a lot since the end of the Cold War.”
They had to. Not so many enslaved nations to draw manpower from these days.
Who really gives a damn? Did you miss the mass executions after the orcs left Kyiv’s outskirts?
Hell, I’m pretty sure he’s glad to have been photographed. At least the world knows he’s alive and not executed. Can’t say for sure I would have taken the pic if you know what I mean...
How can you tell?
Putin isn’t long for this world. He’s shown that the Russian military is a paper tiger. Their equipment is crap. Their troops are crap. Their doctrine is crap. Their entire country is a tissue of lies.
***I did not see that coming. I figured by now they’d be mopping up Ukraine and getting every concession they could think of.
Confirmed from the pics. OSNIT detectives confirmed as such.
” He’s shown that the Russian military is a paper tiger. Their equipment is crap. Their troops are crap. Their doctrine is crap. Their entire country is a tissue of lies.”
True, but their nukes still probably work well enough, something we should all be mindful of.
Our pilots were known to wear tiger camouflage flight suits on occasion over Vietnam. The only one I saw since then that was other than the standard green-gray was an orange one worn by a Navy LT that had been a test pilot back in the Seventies (He was a great guy, and ended up at some point in his Naval career being the all-time leader in carrier traps, though I suppose has since been surpassed...)
I had to look it up...apparently, he is still the all time “pilot in command” leader, which indicates there have been back-seaters who may have more.
He was a great guy. You could tell, just from the way he did his pre-flight walk arounds, that he was the real deal.
“The salient fact is that the Russians are now using 4th generation aircraft against the Ukrainians and losing them.
Putin isn’t long for this world. He’s shown that the Russian military is a paper tiger. Their equipment is crap. Their troops are crap. Their doctrine is crap. Their entire country is a tissue of lies.”
Russia isn’t a first grade military power, but a poorly trained mediocre military.
Putin knows his military is weak, that’s why he raised his nuclear alert levels. And it’s not so much as to deter NATO, but to deter china instead.
That’s the pilot? The Russian pilots wear camo fatigues instead of flight suits? What the hell was he flying, a Spad?
My question as well.
