WASHINGTON — Education Secretary Miguel Cardona said Monday that his department will monitor Florida’s implementation of a controversial new education law that restricts classroom instruction on sexual orientation and gender identity to determine whether it violates federal civil rights law.
Mr. Cardona’s statement hints at potential legal ramifications for Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis’ decision Monday to sign the legislation, which critics have called the “don’t say gay” bill, into law. But it does not specify what actions the Biden administration could take in response.
“By signing this bill, Governor DeSantis has chosen to target some of Florida’s most vulnerable students and families, all while under the guise of ‘parents’ rights.’ Make no mistake: this is a part of a disturbing and dangerous trend across the country of legislation targeting LGBTQI+ students, educators, and individuals,” Mr. Cardona said in a statement Monday after Mr. DeSantis signed the bill into law.
“This comes at a time when we know lesbian, gay, bisexual, and questioning students are three to four times more likely than non-LGBTQI+ students to report experiencing persistent feelings of sadness, hopelessness, and even self harm — not because of who they are but because of the hostility directed at them.”
The law signed by Mr. DeSantis prohibits classroom instruction on sexual orientation and gender identity in kindergarten through third grade or “in a manner that is not age-appropriate or developmentally appropriate for students in accordance with state standards,” a phrase that could limit instruction for older students as well.
Mr. Cardona’s statement comes after criticism of the Florida legislation from President Joe Biden last month on the grounds that it targets LGBTQ statements. It also follows a series of increasingly bitter policy disputes between Mr. Biden and Mr. DeSantis over an array of issues . . .

Education is the responsibility of state and local governments, not the Feds!!! Keep the US government away from our kids!!!
If democrats can’t kill kids before they are born they want them groomed for their pedo lgbtqwtf people. Sick perverts.
Monitor all the universities that commit thousands of violations every year against non-trans people in the hopes of grooming them into misfits.
Yep. It was in the 70's in my conservative state of Texas in the 10th grade, and the sex part was only covered for a couple of weeks in that course. That is plenty enough time to teach and learn the very simple concepts of how life-altering illegitimate sex is. We learned how debilitating many STD's were, what the horrific treatments were for advanced disease. We were horrified. We learned the full biology of pregancy, puberty and the developments which came with it, and other sexual maturity issues. Not once was "safe sex" recommended, only abstinence was implied as the assumed policy. And nothing about 'gay' sex was ever broached, that I remember.
Coaches mainly taught the course so they focused mostly on health, hygiene, the dangers of drug use, maturity issues and good health habits.
They can all burn in hell. The sooner, the better.
It would seem to me that the civil rights most threatened in this imbroglio are the rights of the parents and children. They are entitled to their rights to an education untainted by the sexual fantasies/proclivities of the public employee who is employed as an educator.
Neither the school system, school, teacher, nor even Disney employees, have standing to claim their civil rights (which are individual rights) are being or have been violated. Parents, and parents on behalf of their children, on the other hand, should bring such suits, with fury, should some classroom advocate(s) step even one toe over the line.
I have reached the point that I think that the pervs are largely in charge of media and government. I am amazed when anyone finds the courage to go against them.
Read the bull or read an honest description of it.
..or read the “bill”
Or heterosexual acts. Or tranny stuff.
Your description of the 1970’s health education is pretty accurate except in my upstate NY school, they did acknowledge the existence of homosexuals, transvestites, and transexuals, without politicizing the conversation or advocating for the lifestyle. In my school, the health teachers were mostly coaches and a drivers education teacher.
The only controversy that I can recall was when a nurse from planned baby killing spoke to the class about birth control once a year. Students were not allowed to attend the class unless a parent signed a permission slip. Most of us used this as an excuse to skip the class.
DeSantis will be interviewed about this on Buck and Clay at 2:00 for those who want to understand what the bill is really about.
TEXAS:
PLEASE SECEDE from the Union so other states can join in.
My memory is a little foggy on the details, so I can’t confirm whether Planned Barrenhood paid a visit. I do know that the guys were split into a separate class from the girls for the sexual portion of the health class, for obvious physiological differences. They may have heard from the abortion “nurse,” but being the late 70’s, I doubt it.
“Monitors” = Prosecutes
Give the fags an inch, and they’ll take a mile.
Hey Smoking Joe, I was asking the question what this bill was about.
Take a Valium and take a rest.
