President Biden requested more than $11 billion to help developing countries adapt to the ravages of climate change and build greener economies in his $5.8 trillion budget plan released Monday.
But it's unclear whether Congress will deliver anywhere near that amount — and failure to do so could undercut progress at the crucial next round of United Nations climate talks.
Out of more than $11 billion total, approximately $1.6 billion would go to the Green Climate Fund, which finances climate mitigation and adaptation projects in developing countries, according to a White House fact sheet.
If Congress fails to deliver significant climate finance for developing nations, the United States could lose credibility at the next U.N. climate conference in Egypt in November, known as COP27, said Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse (D-R.I.), one of the most vocal climate hawks on Capitol Hill.
“It's very important to our credibility,” Whitehouse told reporters on Monday, adding that if U.S. negotiators show up to COP27 with little climate finance to offer other countries, “then we look like jerks.”

Close the border and allow the illegals to return home to their developing countries and fix their own mess.
Biden doesn’t want anything but an ice cream and a pudding pop.................
Translation: Unleash the ObamaBots on the GOP!
If Biden wants to implement the Paris Accords, then he can run it through the Senate as a treaty. If he doesn’t want to do that, then he can shove his request for $11B in grift, er, I mean “climate aid” where the sun doesn’t shine.
The Democrats will take the money anyway
Even if this were a worthy program (which it’s not):
1. The United States is a debtor nation. So that $11 billion will be money we don’t have. We’ll have to borrow it, and then our grandchildren will have to try to repay it. No one in DC except Rand Paul seems to get that.
2. Every “developing nation” official down the line will be taking his cut. So very little of that money will actually make it to where it was supposed to go.
But, hey. We’ve got to look “credible” at the next UN conference. I guess that’s all that matters.
We are too much in debt already. Sorry. Let billionaires donate the money.
Plant 11 billion trees. It will actually do something for the earth instead of funding a slush fund for global wealth redistribution schemes.
OUR tax money can NOT “fix” the weather.
More graft; more corruption…
“...then we look like jerks.”
You’re way beyond just “jerks”, Whitehouse scumbag.
In other words, $11 billion for bureaucrats and grifters.
Ha! It's pretty cold here in Central Kentucky for late March.
What’s the project plan, timeline, risk mitigation strategy, cost, and who gets the money?
...unless ones plan is to replace undesirables(deplorables) with desirables(serfs).
Climate aid? Why, did Climate get laid off and now can’t afford to buy his Climate-kids any Climate-mas presents?
Create a crisis... then create a fraud-ridden program to solve your ‘problem’.
That’s the functional definition and blueprint for Liberal ‘leadership’!!
Inform Congress if they pass his bill to enjoy their last term in office.
