Western officials say as Russia's forces continue to show signs of crumbling Western officials have said that Moscow made a 'catastrophic miscalculation' Russian advance into Ukraine has been stalled by fierce Ukrainian resistance Therefore, it is expected that Russia will change tactics in its assault on Ukraine Officials said they expect Russia to consolidate its forces in eastern Donbas

Russian President Vladimir Putin is expected to change tactics and focus his firepower on the east of Ukraine, according to Western officials, abandoning plans to seize vase swathes of his neighbouring country.

When Russia unleashed its multi-pronged invasion on February 24, a swift toppling of Ukraine and it democratically elected government seemed likely.

But with Wednesday marking four full weeks of fighting, Russia is bogged down in a grinding military campaign, and is being pushed back in some regions.

The slow Russian progression has seemingly taken the Kremlin by surprise, and Western officials have said that Moscow made a 'catastrophic miscalculation'.

As such, it is expected that Russia will change its military tactics in Ukraine and instead consolidate its supplies and logistical efforts in the eastern Donbas region.

Speaking to The Times, one western official said Ukraine's intelligent resistance had 'derailed' Russia's flawed plans, which had at the heart of them the assumption that Ukrainians would allow Russia to roll into their country without much of a fight.

So he plans to bom b and shell the eastern provinces of Ukraine to dust so he can liberate the poor russians held there against their will by the evil Ukrainians?

Sounds like a sound plan to me. /s of course.

How many of us are sick and tired of despots, idiots and tyrants or supreme court nominees who don’t know what a woman is, judges that release murders, drunks that kill cops, a flood of illegals across the borders who are in turn welcomed and coddled by people sworn to not do that or presidents who are nothing but puppets manipulated by people who hate the nation? The list is endless.

Three more years of this and maybe more? Today I’m not sure we can survive three more months or days of it. Much of the damage that has been done is probably not reversible.

Here is what Putin actually said. He apparently was going to annesx the two states already split off from Ukraine:

“In this context, in accordance with Article 51 (Chapter VII) of the UN Charter, with permission of Russia’s Federation Council, and in execution of the treaties of friendship and mutual assistance with the Donetsk People’s Republic and the Lugansk People’s Republic, ratified by the Federal Assembly on February 22, I made a decision to carry out a special military operation.

The purpose of this operation is to protect people who, for eight years now, have been facing humiliation and genocide perpetrated by the Kiev regime. To this end, we will seek to demilitarise and denazify Ukraine, as well as bring to trial those who perpetrated numerous bloody crimes against civilians, including against citizens of the Russian Federation.

It is not our plan to occupy the Ukrainian territory. “

In Putin’s televised announcements, he also said nothing of attacking Kviv, yet he did. He used the excuse of recognizing the two breakaway provinces as his “justification” for military action, so based on his speech I expected him to roll into the Donblass region the same way he rolled into Crimea in 2014.

But Putin invaded North Ukraine which was never part of his televised “plan.”

It did not take 26 days to reach Baghdad in 2003.

The U.S. crossed the berm from Kuwait to Iraq on 19 March, reaching Baghdad by 6 April. Oh, and that statue of Sadaam was down by 9 April.

You are correct and I admit I was fooled by his assault in the north.

I have concluded that the assault on Kiev was made so he could offer concessions while keeping what he wanted. Time may tell

However I repeat that I have concluded Putin was in large part bluffing.

He held two pair and not a full house. Eights over threes was beat by the Ukranian hand of tens over sixes

We might turn that equation around — what if Putin only intended to grab the Donbas, secure Crimea, sweep out some biological war labs and block NATO?

This scenario let’s Biden and EU and the Globalist come away claiming they saved Ukraine.

Win/win.

Ground war changes - if he’s being preventedf rom completing his objections - including armamnet stored in Kiev - he’s going to fight off what prevents that. Sheesh - I believe his intnt for Kiev has been containment for the most part and expressed why in other threads I’ve posted.

As for Donbass - if you thought he’d just roll in there like he did Crimea then you have no idea what’s been happening in Donbass since 2014 to present.

His landbridge around the borders of Ukraine was evident.

You have a point there, though if Putin had been able to easily sweep through Ukraine and assassinated Zelensky and other top Ukrainian leaders, then Putin would have grabbed all of Ukraine. Why would he not do this? He is a senile megalomaniac.
