Newsom’s gas price relief would send $400 payments to California vehicle owners
The Los Angeles Times ^ | March 23, 2022 | Taryn Luna

Gov. Gavin Newsom on Wednesday released the long-awaited details of his tax refund plan to send $400 to Californians for each registered vehicle, a move that would put more money in the pockets of families who own more cars — even the state’s highest-income residents — and exclude those without cars from receiving the payments.

*** The governor, who is up for reelection this year, would cap payments at $800 for any person with more than one vehicle registered under the person’s name, though households with multiple vehicles registered to different family members could receive far more than that amount.

*** [An alternative] plan from Senate President Pro Tem Toni Atkins (D-San Diego) and Assembly Speaker Anthony Rendon (D-Lakewood) centers on $200 rebate for each taxpayer and dependent, and excludes the top 10% of earners in the state. Their proposal gives money to eligible Californians whether they own a vehicle.

*** Alexandra Nagy, California director for Food & Water Watch, called the refund “a Band-Aid for the short term.”

“The only way to bring lasting economic relief to Californians is for Gov. Newsom to initiate a just transition away from fossil fuels immediately,” Nagy said in a statement.

*** Sen. Scott Wiener (D-San Francisco) said he doesn’t agree with Newsom’s approach.

“If we’re going to provide relief, it should not be based on who owns a car or who doesn’t own a car, and it should be targeted to the people who actually would really benefit from the help,” he said.

Wiener said a more targeted refund to struggling Californians would reduce the overall cost to the state and allow lawmakers to invest more money into fixing dilapidated school buildings, expanding access to clean water, responding to sea level rise, reducing wildfire risk and addressing other important infrastructure needs.

Apparently the reporter did not think to ask why rebates are going to owners of electric powered vehicles, who are mostly high income individuals that pay $0 at the pump.

Of course the current proposal does not satisfy the enviro nuts who think we can just eliminate cars by raising the price of gas. And of course the communist looters from SF and LA would prefer to simply transfer more $$$ from productive individuals to parasites rather than an across-the-board refund to the people who actually paid the gas taxes.

He’s hoping if he bribes enough voters we’ll forget about his hypocrisy in violating his own mask mandates TWICE. Not a chance in hell.

No relief for business owners who deliver goods to stores
High fuel prices will just be passed on to consumers as higher prices.

Kooky legislator babbled: “responding to sea level rise”

So are any CA coastal communities sinking into the ocean?

I missed the memo on that one.

This adulterer is an absolute retromingent idiot. How much will it cost to administer this idiotic plan? How will they know the correct recipients will receive the funds? He has wasted BILLIONS for masks, covid relief funds, welfare and health care to illegals. Why not just abolish the state gas tax? What a F****** idiot, a total fool and a shyster this evil clown is. Heaven help us.

you see, just dropping the tax wouldn’t allow for the grift in the payout system...

Sen Warren D-MA wants to investigate the oil companies along with food retailers to make sure they are not making a profit and Gov Newsome wants to give rebates to offset gasoline costs.

So Noisome is thinking if he gives California taxpayers back a measly $400 of their own money they will not pay attention that he is violating the religious beliefs of a majority of them by using taxpayer money to provide free abortions to women that can’t or won’t use birth control? Abortions that average $750 to $1500 or more! Somebody would have done California and America a great service had they aborted our democrat politicians.....just sayin’.

$400?!

Let’s see: gas is ~$5.00/gallon in CA (at best). Typical car has a 15-gallon tank. $400/$5=80 gallons. 80 gallons/15=5.33 tanks of gas. That will last you about a month, and it will do nothing to help with the rising costs of everything else that you need that has to be moved by trucks for you buy it (i.e. groceries). What a joke.
