Madeleine Albright, who in 1997 became the first woman to serve as U.S. secretary of state, died of cancer on Wednesday. She was 84. Current and former politicians from the U.S. and abroad mourned Albright's death.
Former President Bill Clinton, who chose Albright to lead the State Department, was one of the first to release a statement Wednesday afternoon.
"Hillary and I are profoundly saddened by the passing of Madeleine Albright," the statement said. "She was one of the finest Secretaries of State, an outstanding UN Ambassador, a brilliant professor, and an extraordinary human being."
Clinton added that Albright was a friend of theirs, saying she gave them "wise counsel" for years.
"Madeleine's passing is an immense loss to the world in a time when we need the lessons of her life the most, but we know her legacy will live on through all the students she taught so well at Georgetown, everyone who was inspired by her remarkable journey from refugee to Secretary of State, and the many people around the world who are alive and living better lives because of her service," he said.
Condoleezza Rice, who under President George W. Bush became the second woman to serve as U.S. secretary of state, called Albright "an American giant whose life and legacy will be remembered for generations to come."
"She was not only a trailblazer for women worldwide, but a fearless fighter for freedom on behalf of all humanity," Rice said in a statement. "For me personally, I have lost an invaluable colleague and a very dear friend who I will miss tremendously."

I was surprised to hear of her passing. I thought that she had died some time ago.
Fearless Fighter for something or someone but it wasn’t Freedom.
She was a lousy Secretary of State.
Some form of prostate cancer from what I heard. (LOL)
Anyway, there were a lot of civilians and innocents who were killed in Serbia because of this “brilliant” woman. It was an illegal war, but the Clinton administration didn’t care about human lives.
It is sickening to hear how people gush about Albright being important because of something she supposedly accomplished.
She was a lousy Secretary of State.
Can you name me any good Democratic Secretary Of State?
As I recall it, Billy Jeff found a nobody assistant DA in Florida who would follow his orders without question, and appointed her Sec State.
The only thing I remember her saying is that “it isn’t fair that America is the only superpower in the world. We have to level the playing field.” I paraphrased, of course, but that told me everything I needed to know about this vile clueless woman.
Scratch her off the guest list for American Nuremberg II.
I inherited a bunch of books including two by Madeline Albright - her memoir and that insipid book about her pins. Both signed copies. Never let a tragedy go to waste. Ebay.
I kind of remember her. No disrespect intended, but she resembled an owl.
Now they are going to vie for the title of Biggest Exaggerator. Who can tell the biggest whoppers about her supoosed accomplishments.
She wanted the same sort of freedom for people that Klaus Schwab, Bill Gates, Anthony Fauci and George Soros want for us peasants.
Please don’t drag her body to the Capitol or White House. What was once a rare viewing honor has now become commonplace.
Her finest moment was when the Albanian delegation mistook her for a cleaning lady.
““it isn’t fair that America is the only superpower in the world. We have to level the playing field.”
Yes, she said that and in her book and described her pet project, the formation of the EU, was to provide competition for the US. She espoused that it wasn’t good for the world for the US to be the only super power. This was at the time the USSR was split - as I recall.
Her grasp of global dynamics was as broken as Biden’s in those
days. Leftists can’t grasp global dynamics at all.
Obama thought it was wisest to shun our friends, and strike
up with those who have made it a lifetime goal to destroy us.
Dumb doesn’t begin to cover it.
Any dead one
