In July of 2021, this writer took a little trip through rural Missouri. Besides visiting kinfolk whom I hadn’t seen for far too long, one purpose of my trip was simply to do something else, something different. You see, I’d become something of a recluse and I really needed to just go outside, blow the stink off, maybe even commune with Nature, whatever that is.
My destination was a spot near the center of the northeast quadrant of the state, about a three-hour trip by car. The most expeditious route from Kansas City would be to take I-70 to Columbia and then motor north on US 63 for about an hour. Not really interested in expedience, I chose the scenic route, “a road less travelled,” US 24 to be exact.
Driving eastward on 24, what impressed me was the modern world’s utter dependence on petroleum. Not only was I leisurely tooling along in my 1990 Taurus, which happens to burn gasoline, but everything I surveyed depended on oil. The lawns and pastures of the rural folk were nicely manicured. All that mowing takes a lot of oil, but that’s nothing when compared to the crops, especially the corn.
The corn crop did not look like any corn that this kid could remember. It was lush and tightly packed, dense even. Every field looked like it had been planted and cultivated by the same farmer, maybe some corporation. I’d bet a buck that this corn I drove past was genetically-modified Frankencorn, and totally dependent on high-powered fertilizers. I’ve probably eaten tons of it in the cheap salty corn chips I’m addicted to.
Corn is used not just as food for people and cattle, it’s also used to produce ethanol, and not just for boozers, but to mix in with our gasoline.

That gets us to the fraud of renewables -- they depend on fossil fuels. The heavy machinery used to produce corn ethanol, the tractors, corn-pickers, and such, all use fossil fuels; there are no electric versions as yet. (Rapier touches on this in the above link.) So, a farmer must use fossil fuels to produce a non-fossil fuel. Biofuels can’t exist without fossil fuels, at least not yet. (Actually, petroleum is a biofuel; the “bio” is ancient plankton. Geologists don’t think that abiogenic oil can account for what’s in the world’s vast oil fields.)
Not to mentions the vast amounts of energy required to manufacture said farm equipment, fertilizer (thanks pootski) and associated components etc., etc., etc.
So, just how many dinosaurs and planktons had to die to supply the vast amount of oil available.(which may never be used) Hocus Pocus eco assclowns. And the boat grrrrrreta sailed in on!
The carburetor cleaning kit industry loves ethanol. LOL
We passed a station in Minden NV recently that had a display for non ethanol fuel. 92 octane IIRC. Price didn’t appear out of bounds with other current prices. (Which are out of bounds for only one reason.)
A few years back, a flotilla of protesting kayakers surrounded an oil drilling platform that was passing through Puget Sound. Somebody commented that their kayaks, apparel, helmets and practically everything that kept them afloat were petroleum products. Not to mention how they transported themselves and their gear to the water’s edge. It would’ve been interesting to ask them if they were willing to give all of that, and their standard of living, up for their cause. Or if they had given it any thought at all.
Them: “It’s not the same thing!”
I’ll try again. 2 Iowa GOP senators-will they vote to end it? Fat chance. Then there’s the lobby and global warming activists. They enjoy using each other just like women enjoy being used. Ask Bill Clinton now that Hillary’s bedridden(covid).
And, jen pus-sack-ee is also down with CONvid. Hmmmmmm!
Ethanol has about one-third less energy than does gasoline. So cars using ethanol get fewer miles per gallon. Flex-fuel vehicles that use E85 get up to 27 percent fewer miles per gallon.
When I drive in town at lower speeds and energy demand, I get about the same mpg whether ethanol (e85) or not. The original promotion of ethanol was a small economy car, going around a level track at 35 mph. They both got the same mpg.
Down the road at 65, larger engine, the 27% fewer miles kicks in.
Again, comparing e85 or e10 or e15? Get the facts. Evidence is ethanol does help control some pollution in the big city and even in the rural areas. Perfect, NO.
But people don’t want facts and information. They want a simple problem with a simple answer. One size fits all and the govt is more than willing to provide.
My son was there when this happened. He worked for TransOcean and was on the platform. He sent me a photo of those idiots in their Kayaks. He is now a PostMan and is a Vet from Iraqi Fredom Service.
The author is an uniformed idiot, i.e. typical of the kind of crap that gets published these days. Advances in modern agriculture (which he obviously know nothing about) have made the US the greatest producer of food and fiber in the world through decades (a century, actually) of advances in crop science which had nothing to do with any genetic modifications so his heart need not be troubled. Coronary disease from sitting on his ass writing blogcrap will get him long before corn does.
Guess he didn’t see anyone tilling using mules so proof, big Agra.
“Evidence is ethanol does help control some pollution in the big city and even in the rural areas.”
Air is just fine everywhere but in big cities and that will never clear up what with all the human filth in them. Besides, who cares.
