After several days of problems, the city of Miami Beach said it was declaring a state of emergency and implementing a curfew starting Thursday morning at 12:01 a.m. to deal with rowdy spring breakers.
“We didn’t ask for spring break and we don’t want it," Miami Beach Mayor Dan Gelber said Monday.
According to Miami's ABC station, WPLG, "five people were injured during two shootings on Ocean Drive" as spring breakers socialized nearby on Sunday.
A video posted on social media shows a police motorcade driving slowly down the crowded street when four shots rang out. That sent dozens of young people in shorts and swimwear scrambling for cover. Officers found two people wounded and they were taken to the hospital, the Associated Press said.
A third person arrived at an emergency room with a gunshot wound. All are expected to survive.
"Four police officers were also injured while working to clear out the crowd on Ocean Drive," WPLG reported.

The announcement comes as Miami Beach’s new approach in dealing with the massive, mostly Black and at-times rowdy crowds seemed to be achieving its desired effect: The street corner fights and confrontations with police that lit up social media and embarrassed city leaders in recent years have mostly been absent. The city’s crackdown also had come under fire from critics who contended they unfairly targeted young Black visitors.

Spring Break stopped being just students a few years ago. Has esculated to a huge party everybody goes - especially those that see it as a market.
So, that's what they call it, now?
Derbyshire's Rules.
Just sayin'.
Back in the day when Spring Break was mainly a white privilege the only worries were alcohol poisoning, unwanted sexual advances, and balcony divers who missed the pool. Now that Spring Break has been liberated and made more diverse we can add knivings, shootings, and gang fights to the roster of activities.
There is a term used like the hundred mile club which is used to describe all the pervs who live within driving distance of a Spring Break location and can pass themselves off as college kids.
I am reminded of Yogi Berra’s famous quote, “...it’s so crowded, nobody goes there anymore.”
I look at their behavior and the way they are dressed and shudder for our future....
It's the ongoing BREAKDOWN of CIVILITY which began when the took reference to GOD out of the schools back in the 70's.
Growing up in the city that made Spring Break famous, I don’t remember gun fights taking place!
Of course, at the risk of sounding “racist”, I don’t remember any blacks or 3rd worlder’s there either!
Where was this?
Fort Lauderdale naturally!
And yes, my mom, brother, Uncle and myself were in the movie!
(In the crowd scene, crossing a1a at las olas in front of the elbow room)
You got it!
😉👌👍
I’m not surprised. ...and I’m not surprised that violence esculates with the mixed nationalities that converge there now.
Looks like Miami beach has turned dark - if that is Miami pictured.
One black guy arrested, while sporting his gun and running, told police he shot because the other black guy shot first. Sounds like the hood showed up at the beach.
Who is the one white nitwit in the lower left corner of that photo? LOL.
Too bad for people needing to get to the hospital or a wedding or to work.
I don’t care if it sounds “racist,” but they acted like savages, and it went a lng way to forming how I feel about blacks generally.
It is worth noting that the black leadership of Atlanta shut Freaknic down, it became so obnoxious.
Ah, the article that got Derb fired from NR.
I have always liked him and his writings, and I told him as much when I met him after a Michael Anton talk several years ago.
