The Ukrainian people are making great sacrifices fighting against Russia’s war machine, and their resistance is helping the free world. As NATO’s leaders meet this week in Brussels, now is the time for the alliance to repay this fortitude by escalating support for Kyiv.
“Ukrainian forces have defeated the initial Russian campaign of this war. That campaign aimed to conduct airborne and mechanized operations to seize Kyiv, Kharkiv, Odesa, and other major Ukrainian cities to force a change of government in Ukraine,” concludes the Washington-based Institute for the Study War (ISW) in a Saturday analysis. “Russian forces continue to make limited advances in some parts of the theater but are very unlikely to be able to seize their objectives in this way.”

As NATO meets, the temptation in Brussels will be to look for a way out of the war. The Washington Post is filled with reports, clearly informed by U.S. officials, fretting that Mr. Zelensky doesn’t seem to have an “end game” for the war. The risk as the conflict continues is that the will of Team Biden and NATO will flag and at some point they will pressure Ukraine to settle.
That’s exactly the wrong message to send to Ukraine and Russia, and the NATO leaders should signal the opposite this week. The top priority is escalating weapons shipments to Kyiv, especially air defenses against Russia’s long-range missiles and high-altitude aircraft. Ukraine also needs more Turkish drones that have been effective against Russian tanks and artillery.
The leaders should also banish talk of giving Mr. Putin an exit ramp other than complete withdrawal from Ukraine.

What free world?
Canada? Not free
Australia? Not free
The post rigged election USA? Not free
“Talk is cheap. I can get all the talk I want over at the Monarch boarding house.”
Gear up and get in the fighting.
Beat me to it.
Putin will ultimately fail, it’s a no brainer.
You mean...peace?
Read what Trump said on Fox business this morning it was unequivocal. Trump is my political bible in America at this time and I will follow him. He supports additional military aid to Ukraine.
Donald J Trump is THE anti deep state. Denounce and ignore these kooks who are telling you to disregard even President Trump.
Nooo you can’t say the P word!
The more I learn about the Ukraine and our involvement for the last couple of decades, the less enthusiastic I get for spending blood and treasure for its defense. We have not exactly championed their democracy when it leaned toward Russia.
Sorry. I’m already wobbly.
Trump isn’t God. He is far from infallible.
“Free world” = the American and other plutocrats and pigs who are busy erasing any hope for freedom to survive.
My friends the sad thing is when we’re the only ones the victims can turn to. In Europe that is not the case. NATO is not united otherwise they’d find a way to buy US energy(unavailable). BJ bombed Serbia from 10,000 feet and hit the Chicom embassy.
Rwanda(Clinton’s watch). Our defense budget allows Germany to mandate 30 days paid vacation, twice what we get. Europe’s stronger than Russia but they choose to go wobbly because they know we’ll handle it.
So we pull back and the world goes to hell in a hand basket. Trump shouts from the rooftop over 2% defense budgets. Deaf ears. The more refugees the better. How else are they going to know what’s at stake? Europe cannot solve it’s own problems. That’s why they came here.
Trump was beaten down by Russia Russia Russia, and his opinions on the subject now are a flat out mistake. Deep State beat him thoroughly during his first administration, due mostly (it seems) to his naivete (which we all shared), and they have (apparently) permanently intimidated him.
Ditto to what you said.
I like the idea of continuing to support Ukraine with current weapons, even heavier, more effective weapons if possible.
However, there is something in the tone of this article that bothers me. There’s a difference between doing what is needed even when you don’t want to, and being like the WSJ, which seems to be wetting itself over the possibility of global war.
There is something wrong with those people.
What a bunch of hooey. Explain how it helps the free world, after as Lurkinanloomin intimates, you identify identify who the members of this free world are.
I mean after all, Zelenskyy is acting like just another authoritarian as far as I can see, after he prohibited the existence of any opposition party.
I'll be waiting with bated breath for your reply Wuli.
Trump is one h*** of a lot more infallible than you. Be gone.
