Excellent Article in the WSJ about the Cold War in 1945, and the new Cold War (hopefully stays cold) of 2022.

It presents a viewpoint that I had not heard in our ‘vaunted’ legacy media (sarc intended).

Not yet. Are you sure they’re coming? Please point them out as they arrive. Thanks!

Russia is just a paranoid nation. They’d look for enemies if they were free and capitalist.
To: SACK UP
I don’t know. Why do you think you’re a Russian troll?

Opinions are like certain body parts...everyone has one.
Some are based on facts, others on feelings.

...Mr. Putin’s attempted conquest, and his burgeoning partnership with China’s Xi Jinping, reminds Mr. Pottinger of the Korean War. “In 1950, Stalin and Mao and Kim Il Sung badly miscalculated how easy the invasion would be and miscalculated American resolve, much as we’re seeing today"... It has been pointed out to me that the 'Budapest Memorandum on Security Assurances' apparently specifies that the parties (including the US) seek immediate UN Security Council action, in the event that Ukraine was invaded. If the US actually does that and gets a military commitment from the UN to intervene in Ukraine, then the comparison to Korea might become more appropriate...

Didn’t a certain administration in the early 90s make certain they sold all government assets for kopeks on the ruble and become capitalist? I’m fairly certain there were a couple advisors sent there that helped them in this endeavor. It was all very altruistic.

That’s the same thought I had, a new viewpoint. Being a student of Russian history I went straight to the Finnish debacle, but the Korean one really comes a lot closer to events on both the strategic and tactical level. The only issue is that there is not a large scale supplier of extra troops like Vietnam and Korea both had.
Although there could be fresh infusions of troops on the Ukrainian side from the former Soviet countries. They might like the idea of taking Mother Russia down a peg.

I read that Russia, being a permanant member of the Security Council, vetoed any UN action.

Looks like the General Assembly will take it up.
Possibly, a sternly worded letter will ensue.
