Hollywood celebrities including Leonardo DiCaprio, Mark Ruffalo, and Jane Fonda are protesting a Canadian natural gas pipeline that they claim represents a threat to the climate and indigenous rights.
Their demand to defund the pipeline comes as energy prices are soaring around the world, putting a squeeze on working class families and sending a dire ripple effect throughout the global economy. The pipeline at the center of the fight is the Coastal GasLink, which transports natural gas across the Canadian Rockies in British Columbia to the Pacific coast.
Celebrities are putting pressure on LA-based City National Bank, citing the bank’s parent company, the Royal Bank of Canada, a major investor in the pipeline.
“Our ‘bank to the stars’ is aiding projects that violate Indigenous rights,” they said in a letter to City National and RBC. “We refuse to allow our industry’s bank of choice to be unethical, to accelerate the climate crisis, to facilitate the abuse the rights of Indigenous Peoples.”
They are claiming the pipeline violates the territory and waters of the Wet’suwet’en Peoples.
Among the other Hollywood signatories are Joaquin Phoenix, Robert Downey, Jr., Scarlett Johansson, Ben Stiller, David Fincher, Ava DuVernay, and Amy Schumer.
Fossil fuel pipelines have become a favorite target of left-wing celebrity activists. Last year, they successfully pressured President Biden to shut down the Keystone XL pipeline on his first day in office, effectively killing thousands of jobs with the stroke of a pen.
They are also demanding the killing of the Dakota Access and the Enbridge Line 3 pipeline replacement.
Pipelines are among the most efficient and cost-effective way of transporting fossil fuels. Without pipelines, oil and natural gas would have to be transported on trucks, which makes them more expensive to consumers.

These people are all wealthy - ‘limousine liberals’. They have no idea how all of this ‘green energy’ stuff will impact people in poverty or of modest means.
And they don’t care what happens to REAL people, as long as they can posture like this and make themselves feel good and superior.
Surprised not to see Meathead on this list of impressive thought leaders.
I might suggest they gather their like minded friends and ply their trade in the Urkraine! And don’t let the door slap them on the butt on their way out.
Leonardo DiCaprio, Mark Ruffalo, and Jane Fonda ????? Energy experts and economists? Its still the economy stupids. No one cares about their opinions, and what worries do they have? They go to the most expensive places to eat, $$$$ is no problem for them. They don’t have any worries the average working person has. Sure they have a high end electric vehicle, but what about the custom Hummer type vehicle they keep hidden in their garage. Oh they are interested in us and not their investment portfolios? Sure!
Well, ain’t they just special?
….while the hypocritical bastards go all over the world in their private jets.
As if $10/gal gas affects these multi-millionaires.
No bird-killing windmills there, though. Yet.
Certainly you can get a multi-million dollar job by sleeping with someone.
Everybody south of the Canadian border knows what “ain’t ____ just special” means coming from a southerner. 🙂
It always makes me smile.
Colbert said he’d even pay $15/gal because he drives a Tesla. That’s as funny as it gets.
Are these people traders, paid for by the Chinese, maybe their Chinese employers?
Explain to me why I should give a f*ck what Hollywood celebrities think about anything.
Hollywood celebrities continue to give Putin smd the Middle East theocracies the sea in energy prices
Those windmills really suck. We have a shitload of them here in western Pa. Just about every high ridge at least around where I live is ruined as far as I’m concerned. Seems like a lot of the time only some of them are turning and the other ones aren’t.
Same here in Maine.
Windmills and solar farms are subsidized by our tax money are higher electricity prices.
I would rip them all down if I could. A blight on the land.
Give me oil, gasoline, natural gas, coal and nuclear power any day of the week.
We own a chunk of undeveloped acreage here in Maine and we get letters from solar schmuck companies in Boston, New York City and San Francisco all the time. The letters are ignored.
An egotist, a psychopath, and a traitor! The Trifecta of all that is wrong with the American Left.
If Jane Fonda’s against it, I’m for it.
