While Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has become famous for his khaki green T-shirt, his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin chose a £10,000 Loro Piana jacket for his appearance at a stadium rally last week.
With Russia feeling the impact of sanctions, it is unclear which of Putin's aides thought it wise for him to don a coat costing 25 times the nation's average monthly wage.
Putin, who teamed the puffer jacket with a £2,400 roll-neck sweater by Italian brand Kiton, told 200,000 people inside Moscow's Luzhniki Stadium that his invasion of Ukraine was to defend the 'universal values' of all Russians.
The high-fashion leader is also a fan of a £8,800 black Blancpain Grande Date Aqua Lung watch, and has been spotted in a £605 pair of Loro Piana suede trim sneakers.
One critic wrote on Twitter: 'While Russian people are fighting for food in stores, Putin addressed Russians wearing a Loro Piana jacket worth 1.5million roubles.'
Putin's physique looked bulky during the speech, sparking speculation he was wearing a bullet-proof jacket under the coat. There were also claims that much of the crowd were paid or coerced to be there.

Oh, yes, government employees bussed in probably at the point of a gun is a real demonstration of love...
what a ridiculous meme.
Putin is no way as bad as Pol Pot.
Not as bad as Pol Pot yet but...Putin is threatening all-out nuclear war and even preaching to his countryman that we have nothing to fear because “We will go to Heavan. The others will not and they will have no time to repent.” I’m surprised at his long table photos where he sits 20 feet away from who he is meeting. Such photographs show him in a very bad light as a paranoid and yet he is not aware enough to suppress the photos.
Putin is Idi Amin without the suntan.
When Putin begins slaughtering his own people, they he will be as bad. I’ve read about Pol Pot. Stalin would be more akin to him than Putin is.
Richer too.
The sad part was that Putin really did get some positive things done. He did reverse the economic slump in post-Soviet Russia. He did get its agriculture fixed.
He screwed up with its economic model, and its dependence on extractive industries in the hands of a new princely class, but on the whole he was a net plus, right up to 2014. If he’d done just a US 8-year term like a US president, and gone on to live in his dachas and yachts, he would be looked on kindly, everywhere.
I don’t think his decisions are based on if he’s dying or not.

His wardrobe is still less than AOC’s. And really, An £8800 watch really isn’t that much for a man of his stature. A nice Rolex will start at that. The old Datejust I got for graduation is worth more than that.
...Its is corruption, bribes from olgarchs, Putin can’t invest his way out of a paper bag-Zelenskyy mistake was not sharing the spoils of Ukrainian oligarchs
