Four American soldiers were killed in a plane crash during a NATO exercise unrelated to the Ukraine war, Norway’s prime minister said Saturday.
Jonas Gahr Støre tweeted that they were killed in the crash on Friday night. The cause was under investigation.
“The soldiers participated in the NATO exercise Cold Response,” he said. “Our deepest sympathies go to the soldiers’ families, relatives and fellow soldiers in their unit.”
The plane was a V-22B Osprey that belongs to the U.S. Marine Corps, Norway’s armed forces said.
“The aircraft had a crew of four and was out on a training mission in Nordland County” in northern Norway, according to a statement.
It was on its way north to Bodø, where it was scheduled to land just before 6 p.m. Friday. The plane crashed in Gråtådalen in Beiarn, south of Bodø. Police said a search and rescue mission was launched immediately. At 1:30 a.m. Saturday, the police arrived at the scene and confirmed that the crew of four had died.

A disastrous design which takes all the complexity of a helicopter and multiplies it by adding the complexity of a tilting wing.
A good design philosophy is “do a few things well”. A beautiful example of this is the A10 Warthog.
Unfortunately, the Pentagon is obsessed with weapon systems that can do anything, such as the Joint Strike Fighter (JSF) program (F 35 Lightning). It’s land based. It’s carrier based. It can VTOL. It costs $50M a copy.

The Exercise was planned way before the putie-the-putster invaded the Ukraine according to another Post here on FR.
The problem is that the V-22 Osprey should have been V-22 Kiwi or Dodo Bird and never been built.

I don’t see the Ukraine listed there. Because at the time they were part of Russia.
The Osprey is a piece of junk. If one were parked on the tarmac with engines off and the keys in my pocket I still wouldn’t get on board. 👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻
If a normal helo is a bucket of bolts waiting to fly apart a V22 is that on steroids.

Blackhawks, Seahawks, and Chinooks have killed many many more. Unfortunately flying low level has lots of risk.
