Russia exports grain. Russian agriculture improved greatly under Putin - he did do good things at one time. Both Russia and Ukraine are major wheat exporters.

Since there are currently no marshals in Russia, there are only two levels above lieutenant general in Russian army.
Army general and colonel general are the only higher ranks.
Basically three star general in the US, but with only two stars in Russia.
That kind of guys are usually hiding somewhere far from the front. Why was he exposed?

I saw a picture of equipment supposedly taken off of a dead Chechen fighting for Russia. Part of the kit was a motorola HT1250 pprtable radio. I used those at work, and they’re short- range without signal repeaters. They’re also not built for military use. Their durability in combat situations is questionable.
FWIW.

I presume morale problems. And because Putin told him to kick ass and take names so stalled objectives can be achieved, already.

Wow - this really is costing Putin; that plus 10 dead troops and POW’s and all that equipment. Kinda like an oops there.

Generals Grant and Sherman took to wearing uniforms with no rank insignia in the later stages of the civil war.

They were arming citizens because it makes sense. Militia is very useful. It means you can assign militia to hold defensive positions and guard rear areas while your regulars are free to conduct mobile operations. An invaded country can use every man. War is not a game, one has to use every advantage available.

And Ukraine has manpower as a major advantage. They can mobilize reserves and militia easily, while Russia can’t.

Why should the Ukraine give up the Donbass just because the Soviets emigrated a bunch of ethnic Russians there generations before. If their descendants are happier as Russians let them move back. Vlad has a declining population, especially amongst his preferred Russian ethnicity. They’d be welcome and there’s plenty of space for them. Plenty of precedents for that. Heck, after our Revolution plenty of Loyalists fled to Canada. As for the value of the land and resources they’d leave behind call it a down payment on the Russian debt for the Holodomor, etc.

Last count (per the Ukes) is they are holding about 1000 Russian POWs. One can call this propaganda, but come the peace they are going to have to account for these guys, and if they are short there will be hell to pay. I have not seen a Russian claim about Uke POWs, make of that what you will.

“Russians traditionally have a very top-down “don't think just follow orders” military culture.”

I recall a great article about our boys in Iraq(?) written by a French soldier. He said how the USA was always ready to mount a rescue or help out in an ambush. Or if something happened along a mission they just ran to the sound of the gunfire with overwhelming force. The French guy said that all of the European solider had to wait on specific orders.

And in other stories how it was the next guy stepped up to take the place of a casualty above him. Or three steps above him.

while all buildings in Russia not even had glass windows shattered.
______

There were some intrusions on Russian airports, destroying some planes in Russian military bases.
But anyway.
Ukraine is avoiding attack on Russia as to prevent Russians to rally to their country defenses. As pretty much everybody, the Russians are not really enjoying attacking friendly Ukrainians. But, if Mother Russia is attacked, all will enthusiastically came to her defense.
Ukraine has to prevent that!

“Is it possible these high ranking officers are being eliminated by Putin. Indirectly of course. For doing such a poor job?”

If so, it would be published in the Krasnaya Zvezda publication. (It’s like the Russian version of Stars and Stripes or Army Times.)

They have some colonels commanding divisions.
_____
Yes, I see that in the org chart.
They have some colonels commanding divisions.
Since Russians have no Brigadier General rank at all, this really may even be a four star general position!

Carlos Hathcock getting that general, in that location, was absolutely legendary. That mission alone puts him in the running for greatest of all time. And his day to day was impressive on its own. Shows you what a good ole’ boy, who had to hunt to put food on the table growing up, can do.

As far as I can determine, in rank hierarchy, this is the equivalent of an American major general - two stars.

You’re wrong on #2.

If anything Biden wants the current Ukrainian government destroyed along with all the evidence the Ukrainians have on the Biden crime syndicate.

“Russians know war, shortages, deprivation”

The Ukrainians endured even higher casualty rates in WWII than the Russians.

Tell the Syrians, them probably being good, radical Moslems, that there are thousands of Christians they can kill for their god and ever more women they can have for their reward and entertainment after they’ve killed the men. And I’m not joking on this one.

And I find your comment of fratricide and the Syrians deserting to the EU as plausible.

At this point our western media is sounding a lot like Baghdad bob

Here was the last general that was supposed to be dead. Maj. Gen. Oleg Mityaev

In my opinion. Not the same guy. Note the birthmarks on the dead guy. Ear is different. lips are not the same. Chin is different.
