Human Rights Watch urges Ukraine to stop parading around Russian prisoners

Human Rights Watch has urged Ukraine to stop posting videos of captured Russian prisoners under duress, saying such treatment violates Kyiv’s international obligations.

Ukraine has paraded captured Russian soldiers before the media at news conferences in Kyiv, and these images have been spread via official accounts on social media and messaging apps.

Such actions violate the Geneva Conventions that aim to provide a framework for humanitarian law in conflict, the US-based group said in a statement late Wednesday.

Oops, there's those pesky violations of Geneva Conventions again.

They just don't understand that "Some Animals Are More Equal Than Others".

Sounds like a nasty habit leftover from their Gitmo training.

I happen to agree though. Doing this gives the enemy a huge propaganda benefit and do nothing but anger the Russian soldiers. Did it make us want to stop fighting when the third world savages parade American troops through the streets and parade their bodies in celebration? No. It made us want to utterly destroy those s holes.

They should parade them and then shoot them.

Posting a story like this goes against the brainwashing efforts of our government.

“Oops, there’s those pesky violations of Geneva Conventions again.”

Neither the currently composed government of the Russian Federation or the currently composed government of Ukraine are signatories to the Geneva Conventions.

Also, Pidor Putin has informed us that this is neither a war nor a conflict but instead is a ‘special military operation’ therefore his forces are not covered by the Geneva Conventions.

After all, it’s just a big exercise, right?

No doubt that Youtube has been a major contributor to the Conventions violations. And its ok and back in style to not like Russia and say bad things about them on FaceBook, BUT ONLY RUSSIA.

There was probably an intentional decision made to propagandize these videos and I applaud the Ukraine’s for exploiting them this way. Obviously not at all what the world was expecting to hear from the Russian Bear on the march.

Yeah they should. The Russian people should only get their view of the war from the Putin News Network on state tv.

Very common practice in WWI to try to build up the home front, less so in WWII; Bataan Death March might be an exception, but it wasn’t done for propaganda value so much as for mass killing without having to actually do the killing.

Well, yeah, but you're a big boy with a brain and free will, you don't need me, you're doing fine on your own.

“Neither the currently composed government of the Russian Federation or the currently composed government of Ukraine are signatories to the Geneva Conventions.”

This can get confusing. I found this:

Both Ukraine and Russia are parties to the 1949 Geneva Conventions and Protocol I.

The legal framework applicable in Ukraine is undoubtedly that of international armed conflict. Belligerent Parties to this conflict, i.e., Ukraine and the Russian Federation, are both bound by the provisions of the four 1949 Geneva Conventions and the 1977 Additional Protocol I as States Parties to these treaties.

https://lieber.westpoint.edu/status-foreign-fighters-ukrainian-legion/

Article 13 of the Third Geneva Convention (relative to the Treatment of Prisoners of War) states:
“Prisoners of war must at all times be humanely treated. ... Likewise, prisoners of war must at all times be protected, particularly against acts of violence or intimidation and against insults and public curiosity. Measures of reprisal against prisoners of war are prohibited.”

I’m not sure what the words “parties to” can mean since we had to redefine the word “it.” But if they are bound by the convention, they are violating it.

Neither the currently composed government of the Russian Federation or the currently composed government of Ukraine are signatories to the Geneva Conventions.

However the United States and every nation that has actively supported Ukraine are signatories to the Geneva Conventions.

It's going to be fun figuring out whom to hang when we all get together at Nuremberg, again.
