People sheltering in a theater in the Ukrainian city of Mariupol are emerging from the building after it was bombed, the former head of the Donetsk region said Thursday.
Hundreds of people were thought to have taken shelter in the theater amid the ongoing Russian siege of Mariupol. Hundreds of thousands of people are trapped in the coastal city and as many as 2,500 civilians have died in Mariupol, Ukrainian officials estimate.
After the bombing on Wednesday, Mariupol City Council shared an image of the building and said Russian forces had "purposefully and cynically destroyed the Drama Theater in the heart of Mariupol."

The word “children” was spelled out on two sides of the theater before it was bombed, according to satellite images.
Ukraine’s Minister of Defense Oleskii Reznikov said on Thursday that the Russian who carried out the bombing was a “monster,” and stressed the presence of children in the building.
So we believe CNN now?

Around lunchtime on March 16, it was reported that nationalists from the UAF Azov battalion were preparing a provocation in the building of the Drama Theater in Mariupol.
According to one of the deserted members of Azov, Ukrainian militants established the headquarter in the basement of the Mariupol Drama Theater, and the theater hall was full of civilians, who were guarded by 12 Azov militants, so that they would not run away.
The building should be blown up, and horrific images with numerous civilian casualties should be provided to the Western media, accusing Russia of an airstrike.
Later, by the evening of March 16, the reports were confirmed. Reports that the Russian army had allegedly struck at the Mariupol Drama Theater was spread in Ukrainian social media. There were about 1,000 civilians inside. The Ukrainian version was immediately picked up by the US media.

Refugees from Mariupol confirm that the Drama Theater was blown up by Azov fighters. A woman who evacuated with her children from Mariupol reported that neo-Nazis blew up thee Drama Theater before they retreated.
“Leaving, they smashed the Drama Theater, just leaving, simply, people were brought to us with shrapnel wounds, and that’s it,” a local resident said.

This is where the story takes a turn. Southfront reported rumors of the herding of human shields (as a preparation for deliberate atrocities) in the Azovstal region back on the 2nd March.
Here is the link. preparing a mass provocation with the death of civilians in the city of Mariupol. The Drama Theater was not mentioned in the article, but multiple atrocities were apparently being prepared.
All that was back on the 2nd March - which is when I first read it. The Drama Theater looks like a deliberate 'human mine' atrocity.

SouthFront is an FSB front. That’s a bit more than them editorializing the Russian side. The FSB has said things like this because Russia is killing civilians on a daily basis since that is the nature of war. They want to distract from this by making people think that when civilians die, it must be a false flag or a conspiracy, instead of an unavoidable consequence of war.
There is a war going on and civilian targets will get hit. That’s the nature of war, particularly when fought in urban settings. Since that doesn’t play well in the press, whenever the Russians inadvertently or otherwise hit a target that plays particularly poorly in the press, we hear about how it wasn’t really a civilian target, the people were crisis actors, etc etc.
The Ukrainians don’t need to kill civilians to make a story. The Russians are doing that for them multiple times a day.
Its not about if Ukraine is worth fighting WWIII over they are just a proxy in the war it’s how far from conventional proxy warfare is Russia willing to go to not be snuffed out in the great reset. Russia got the memo they are not part of the club after the great reset so it’s an existential battle for them they need a year round port and access to sell their oil via the black Sea. Take pooty at his word that man will absolutely use his nukes to make sure Russia survives or he will take those who caused it’s demise with them.

One of the cited reasons for Russia's invasion of Ukraine was to defend the independance of the DPR and LPR republics.
These republics seceded after Obama's coup in 2014 left Ukraine with no legitimate government. Since then the DPR and LPR have been on the receiving side of a hot (but not very well reported) war for eight years.
I have seen casualty estimates of about 14,000 for those eight years of war, though I couldn't tell you the makeup of the casualities.

If the US could bomb Serbia for several months to gain the independance of Kosovo, it's not clear why the Russians may not protect the independance of two regions on its own border.

Zelensky has given into Vlads first demand- No NATO for the Ukies.
Vlads second demand, wiping the Neo Nazis from the land- in process, all the Azov’s operating areas are being absolutely leveled, as promised by Vlad.
The third demand is elections for the ethnic Russian provinces… as The Minsk agreements stated ( the Ukies refused to enforce them).
Zelensky is losing, hugely. His Air Force disappeared, his military isolated in many pockets, Kiev Mayor begging all fighting age males “ please do not evacuate, stay and fight”…Zelensky is being “ compelled” to the table, the sooner the better. Vlad will pull out once the Eastern Russian Provinces are secured…..until then Vlad tightens the screws.
Having been in a “ war”, it appears to me , judging by the destroyed Ukie infrastructure, Vlad is most definitely “ winning”. Familiarize yourself with the concept of war.
Support neither government, both are corrupted beyond belief. Pray for the Ukrainian and Russian people, they suffer from their evil leaders.
One side has been forcibly retaining human shields - and apparently deliberately blowing them up - while the other seems to be trying to get them out.
Southfront has been reporting on attempts to establish humanitarian corridors out of e.g. Mariupol for weeks.
These corridors have been (according to Southfront) badly hampered by land mines, Ukrainean shelling and smallarms attacks on civilian buses by Ukrainean gunmen.
Who to believe?

Perhaps the illusion the Putin is a madman is being propagated by Russia as part of the ploy to get his way.
I really think he thought this would be a quick win.
That isn’t winning to me. Russia is losing the PR war..they look like monsters...and are being treated as monsters. And you can bet the rich Russians are furious at the price they are paying across the world.
But I guess Russia is happy to be the boogie man of the 1950s again
