'Unprecedented' water levels threatening hydropower generation in the West
Accuweather ^ | 3/10/22 | By Zachary Rosenthal, AccuWeather staff writer

The continued 'megadrought' in the West has brought a critical reservoir down to extraordinarily low levels, further endangering the region's water supply.

"[The critical elevation] provides 35 feet of buffer before we reach our minimum power pool elevation where Glen Canyon Dam can no longer generate hydropower, " said Heather Patno, a hydrologic engineer for the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation.

Levels are expected to be below the target elevation for a few weeks before rebounding in April due to snowmelt from mountains along the Colorado River Basin. Hydropower generation is not expected to be affected this spring, but it is possible that the reservoir's level will dip to critically low levels again in the summer.

No longer generate hydropower...

It is going to be a long, hot summer.

It’s all due to the fact that everyone has to flush twice with their low flow toilets.

A warm world is a wet world. This is very well established.
A cold world is a world of drought.

The Progressives focus on political science and remain ignorant of any real science.

I live in the Columbia Basin. Our average rainfall is between 6-8 inches per year. But that doesn’t stop us from being bombarded with the unprecedented drought news.

Then they love to parade out the wildfire warnings.

1) the heavy snow pack and spring rains caused too much brush growth which will make the fires worse.

2) the drought has caused the brush to be so dry that a popcorn fart will start a devastating wildfire.

Colorado has 24 major tunnels that move water from western Colorado to eastern Colorado under the Continental Divide... that never gets to Lake Powell, etc.

No wonder why Lake Powell and others are low / not climate charge.. Front range stealing water - legally with a pen

Instead of taking water from the Rockies the thirsty growing coastal demand should be quenched with nuclear power driven desalination plants, sighted and designed to handle their earthquake risks. If they want to live and work in the California desert they should be willing to pay for their water.

Stealing water from Owens Valley also killed ranching there.. A two’fer for the watermelons.

>> nuclear power driven desalination plants would help solve problems.. but the arsonist left / Munchausen syndrome do not want to solve problems.
