The problem with this take is that it is a lie. For all the talks of how the Russian system is wrong and the Western client “liberal democracies” around are doing better, Russia was outperforming them by all accounts post-CW. Even with sanction regimes, it was outperforming half of them, receiving hefty Western handouts.
