Sure, good points.

We're focused on home invasion/property deterrence. We have fine tools an stay sharp by plinking on our property. If there is some reason we are taking on “hostiles” then we're going to lose.

By design our location is the about last choice for bad guys. Quite a gauntlet to get here and the only way out is back through the gauntlet. It’s a good thing.

What is the cost of tooling up full line?

How long at today’s retail prices and raw material prices to pay off the investment?

I don’t care about 5.56mm.

AKs were also made in this caliber.

Most old hunters I’ve known were stocked up

Heh.

"stocked up" is what's left of a 50 round box from last year.

3-5 rounds to confirm zero, and the rest for the season.

I can’t find primers anywhere.

That’s just it. Most of them would rather run 7/24 with four shifts than invest millions in tooling that may be idled in a couple of years.

Winchester has been making 7.62x39 for decades. But it hasn’t been cheap. I bought a box of soft-points for hunting, back in the ‘90s. Still have most of it. The soft primers are not a good match with a free-floating tiring pin.

Absolute glut of 5.56 in the sports stores in my locale. I was in a Cabela's the other day when they rolled out a freight cart that was chest high to me with the stuff.

It’s why you can’t find small rifle primers. NATO contracts and war talk. 9mm is here too. Small pistol primers is another choke point. AK ammo is here. 30-30 or 270 not so much.

I did a little research and scuttle butt says magnum primers have a thicker cup and for floating firing pin type weapons are the go to over standard primers. I’ve never had my AR’s give me a problem and finding any small rifle primers or small rifle Magnum is a chore and prices require access to King Solomon’s mine. The longer I live the more I don’t know about reloading sometimes. FJB. Be safe

They were actually farming 7.62x39 out to other companies, mostly foreign, for decades. They were affected by various import bans in the 2000s, and it wasn’t until the 2010s that Winchester would be shipping 7.62x39 in anything but weird niche rounds again.

Yeah...I would expect the White Box stuff to have military primers.
