The danger in so many Republicans missing the point Barf alert
The Hill ^ | Mar 13, 2022 | Glenn C. Altschuler

Posted on 03/14/2022 3:53:14 AM PDT by where's_the_Outrage?

"Other than that, Mrs. Lincoln, how did you like the play?"

"That," of course, refers to John Wilkes Booth's assassination of President Abraham Lincoln while he was watching the popular play, "Our American Cousin," at Ford's Theater in Washington D.C. on April 14, 1865. The joke, whose origin is uncertain, satirizes people who miss the point because they equate commonplace occurrences and transformational events.

Alas, Americans who are considering putting Donald Trump back in the White House in 2024 have fallen prey to the same false equivalence.

Paul Boyer, who represents a swing district north of Phoenix in the Arizona state senate, is a case in point. One of the only Republicans in the state's legislature who opposes restrictions on voting, Boyer laments that his colleagues view everything "through the lens that, well, the [2020 presidential] election was stolen, so therefore we need x, y, or z bill that'll fix everything ... I guess what troubles me the most is, it's not true." Troubled as well by the cult of personality by which Trump "gets to determine who the 'real' Republicans are," Boyer is also convinced that the then president "started an insurrection on Jan. 6.".....

Several factors, of course, account for the behavior of voters. Party identification and ideological orientation are, perhaps, the most important. Also significant are Americans' evaluation of the personal characteristics of candidates and orientation on public policy issues, which, unfortunately, are now hyped, distorted, or ignored by partisan media echo chambers.....

The 45th president's "that" constitutes a clear and present danger to our democracy. All Americans, especially conservatives, should conclude that it trumps domestic and foreign policies they approve.

Their days on this earth on coming to an end. They know what’s coming. They soon will be at room temperature (or worse).

Nothing in creation is going to stop the pain headed their way!

What should bother Boyer and anyone else is that the state lost control of the voting process and has allowed doubt to cloud the process to the point voting is about as trustworthy as it is in any 3rd world banana regime.

But hey...nothing to see here, right?

Exactly.

One of the only Republicans in the state's legislature who opposes restrictions on voting,

If there are no restrictions on voting, voting becomes an exercise of which group of corrupt power seekers is better able to cheat.

Because leftists are stronger in the urban centers, where cheating is much easier and has a long tradition, Democrats favor cheating.

Leftists have a strong incentive to cheat, because, philisophically, they do not trust the people.

Conservatives in the United States have incentives not to cheat, because their philosophy is based on free and fair elections in the United States, as part of the constitutional structure.

Leftists wish to destroy the constitutional structure, because it limits government power.

Except its 100% true.
Why do Dems and these gutless RINOS keep lying constantly?

RINO AZ Sen. Paul Boyer and the friends he keeps To say that Arizona State Senator Paul Boyer is unpopular in his district would be the height of understatement. The iffy Republican is known for ignoring the elected precinct committeemen in the district he represents, who helped get him elected...

By that logic, America is not legitimate because it was born of an “insurrection” against the King of England.

We need to give it back to the First Residents of Turtle Island, and all us decedents of the insurrectionists surrender themselves for arrest — and since that is Treason against the King, we all need to be executed.

Dispute elections= Gore and Hillary- check
Election meddling= Biden and Obama ( “greatest election fraud group in history”)- check
Criminalize government for political spying=Biden,Obama, Hillary- check
Government interference in media to gaslight= Obama, Biden- check
Use special government emergency orders politically=-Biden- check
Threaten world leaders for kickback money to kids= Biden - check
Coordinate Marxist terrorist groups against average citizens(BLM, Antifa, Muslim Brotherhood)= all democrats- check

Trump was the Victim of the democrats shenanigans before he walked into office. Now, for whatever reason people want you to be afraid of Trump. Trump is not the danger to the Republic. They want to convince people that Trump is so bad that what they have done is justified crime.

The Victim had it coming…. That’s a lot of article to justify what democrats have done.

Of course he’s whining about voting “restrictions.” Securing the vote shouldn’t be a partisan activity by only true conservative Republicans. It should be supported by everybody.

Troubled as well by the cult of personality by which Trump "gets to determine who the 'real' Republicans are,"

This, I agree with.

The real Republicans, the REALLY real ones, are Mitch McConnell, Mitt Romney, Paul Ryan, Kevin McCarthy, Lisa Murkowski, Susan Collins, and so on.

Donald Trump was never and is not now a "real Republican", which is why he was elected in the first place (by 60 000 Democrats in Wisconsin, Michigan, and Pennsylvania who voted for Obama twice).

Flogging the dead horse that is the GOP isn't going to make it get up and run.

What concerns me far more than the bleating of a fattuous gas bag from Arizona is the number of fellow Freepers who fail to realize that the link says the hill but the article is from MSN. You’re commenting, but you’ve clearly paid so little attention that you don’t even know where the source material is coming from.

Where is Howard Beale when we need him, by the way?

Unsure of what exact point you are making. Yes the link is to MSN, but when you see the article it clearly states “The Hill”, therefore originator of the article is The Hill.

While I’ve seen many here complain about MSN, I use it because it gets around paywalls such as the NYT, Washington Times, Motley Fool, etc. And I have to credit MSN with providing the article because I would not know of it otherwise (unless it gets posted here on FR, where I would likely not see the entire article because of the paywall).
