Sen. Rob Portman (R-Ohio) on Sunday questioned why the U.S. rejected Poland’s proposal to transfer MiG-29 fighter jets to a U.S. air base in Germany, saying “I don’t understand why we’re not doing it.”
Asked by co-anchor Dana Bash on CNN’s “State of the Union” if he is worried that Poland giving planes to Ukraine could trigger World War III, Portman said “I don't know why that would be true.”

Westerners always forget the tribalism of “nations” in the Middle East whose boundaries were formed by western powers rather than reality on the ground.
The Kurds are a good example, as are the Israelis.

Retiring from politics, now for the big payoffs, his son to the board of Lockheed Martin or Raytheon or General Dynamics or all of them.

Portmann is just another in a long train of RINO losers from Ohio. Mike Turner is just as bad.
Thank God for Jim Jordan - that is all we have in Ohio.

We have totalitarian authoritarian anti-Semitic anti-Christian anti-American Islamist terrorists fighting for Russia and fighting for Ukraine alongside neo-Nazi Ukrainians and Communist Russians.
What could go wrong?

I am not in favor of direct involvement but transferring migs to Ukraine seems like a no brainer. Even RINOs are right sometimes. I call balls and strikes like I see them.

These people want to put Americans in harms way to defend one of the most corrupt places on earth. I say let’s send the political trash over there to fight. This situation would never have happened if it were not for the Bumblin' Biden administration's inept foreign policy decisions. Regardless of what our media is trying to claim, Ukraine has already been lost for a number of reasons.
Bush connected neocon war hawks who want to start WWIII defending a corrupt regime that helped put Biden in the White house are just doing some form of virtue signaling that they believe makes them look tough. Portman is an attorney and long time Bush man. He is also a never-Trumper who is planning on giving up his seat rather than be part of a Trump dominated GOP.

Those Middle East boundaries were more often made by Middle Eastern empires than European colonizers, and the real problems come from populations that are mixed together, stratified by religion and culture, not territory.
Most of the time that complaint about British map-drawing is a crock.

I'm sure pretty much everyone here on FreeRepublic can explain it.
I can do it in one syllable words.

GOP Sen. Portman: 'I don't understand' why US not transferring jets to UkraineThe government is infested with people who think and speak like children.
This man is a United States Senator - one of 100.
What does he even mean, "I don't understand"? Does he understand WAR? War is one of his big responsibilities.
And why doesn't he say, "I am introducing a Declaration of War against Russia"? He is only one of 535 Americans who can do that. 535 out of 330 million.
If he wants war, THAT is what he should do. If he doesn't want war, he should cut out the feminine, passive, "Waaah, I don't understand!" [stamps foot] language.
