EPA plan would limit downwind pollution from power plants

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Environmental Protection Agency is proposing a federal plan that would restrict smokestack emissions from power plants and other industrial sources that burden downwind areas with smog-causing pollution they can’t control.

The plan announced Friday is intended to help more than two dozen states meet “good neighbor” obligations under the federal Clean Air Act.

A 2015 rule set by EPA blocks states from adding to ozone pollution in other localities. The rule applies mostly to states in the South and Midwest that contribute to air pollution along the East Coast.

A report last year by the American Lung Association found that more than 123 million Americans lived in counties that experienced repeated instances of unhealthy ozone levels. Climate change is likely to exacerbate the problem by causing more hot sunny days conducive to high ozone levels.

The EPA rule set a standard of 70 parts per billion, a level that some environmental and health groups argued falls short. Business leaders and Republicans said the Obama-era rule could harm the economy and cost jobs.

The Trump administration moved to weaken the rule, but the EPA under President Joe Biden said it was restoring pollution controls on power plants and industrial sites.

The EPA proposal would affect power plants starting next year and industrial sources in 2026. The plan would cover engines used in natural gas pipeline; cement kilns; boilers and furnaces in iron and steel mills; glass manufacturers; and boilers used in chemical, petroleum, coal and paper plants.

Shut down EVERYTHING in California-
The whole country is downwind.

Then, put all of your factories on the East Coast.
Nothing is downwind.

Problem solved.

Joe won’t be able to make any public appearances by Memorial day. The pitchforks and torches will be too much to clear out with advance teams and staged events. The plan then will just be fu#$k the public and congress. His cronies will just feed him executive orders which will choke the courts too.

Who in the Democrats is going to visit the Whitehouse in an intervention? These people are sworn to defend our country, not destroy it. Democrats by large have to be terrified. The ones not are convinced unicorns and fairy dust will solve the issues. Really. What are democrats going to do? People of both parties are going to start chasing their representatives down the sidewalks and trying to put a foot up their a$$es.

Our communist masters are on an unstoppable roll...

The only bright spot is that we now have only about 998 more years of the darkest communist tyranny...

It almost appears that our best hope is Apophis...

The South and Midwest, Trump country, what a coincidence.

Ground level ozone is nasty stuff. It is the leading cause of asthma and COPD in urban populations. Participate matter smaller than 2.5 microns also contributes to respiratory distress syndrome. Unlike CO2 , ozone and it’s precursor NOx are really pollutants that carry regulatory limits for valid proven health reasons. The technology exists to eliminate 99.7% or more of NOx emissions from combustion. SCR catalysts for one or lean burn technology or low temperature combustion technology which actually isn’t low temp just lower than the 1800 degrees needed to form NOx in quantity. Factories nor cement kilns nor power plants should not be allowed to spend aactual pollution to down wind communities when the means is available to clean up those emissions to near zero levels. This is the whole purpose of the clean Air act to force companies to use the best available technical means to reduce or eliminate air pollution. Thst would not do so left to their own accord. This is why we the people told our representatives to pass the clean Air act and clean up our air. There is a reason actual pollution has limits measured in PPM this is what our elected officials have mandated as the maximum that can be released at any given time. As technology improves naturally those limits come down to be inline with the best available technical means. Fortunately it’s not up to corporations to clean up their mess they never would. That power is reserved to the people via our representatives who clearly have set limits.
