Biden 'personally killed Polish jet deal' despite Republican AND Democrats ramping up calls to give Ukraine combat planes to make Putin 'fearful of what WE might do'
The Daily Mail ^ | 03/10/2022 | Morgan Phillips

Despite desperate please from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and pressure from lawmakers at home, President Biden killed the Polish plan to transfer MiG-29 jets to Ukraine, fearing the deal might be viewed as an escalation of tensions by Vladimir Putin.

The diplomatic blunder that began with a top European Union diplomat promising the jets to Ukraine ended when Poland suggested it would give the jets to the U.S. to deliver to Ukraine, and the U.S. said that was Poland's responsibility.

Then, U.S. defense officials killed the project entirely, saying they would not support either transferring the jets themselves or backing up Poland in doing so.

'We do not support the transfer of the fighters to the Ukrainian air force at this time and have no desire to see them in our custody either,' Press secretary John Kirby told reporters Wednesday, as he described the sentiment of a call between Defense Sec. Lloyd Austin and his Polish counterpart.

*** Ukraine currently has between 37 and 70 MiG-29s. *** 'POTUS will do what the military advises here and the advice now is not to do this and instead send the Ukrainian government more things they can make good use of,' a senior administration official told Politico. Ukraine has 'many planes they already don't fly much because of Russian air defense.' The official added that it's 'not clear what sending more planes achieves.'

However, both Republicans and Democrats called on the Biden administration to heed Zelensky's calls for more aircraft.

Sen. Mitt Romney, R-Utah, said it was time to make Putin 'fearful.'

'It's time for Putin to be fearful of what we might do. This is war. People are dying. We need to get aircraft to President Zelenskyy and the people of Ukraine immediately,' he wrote on Twitter. ***

They could have, yes. Remember, the original treaty was written in such a way that NATO did not have to come help for Korea (most did) or Viet Nam (most didn’t).

Yes, but Poland is not the US. They correctly passed the buck to the US and said, “Hey, you want to do this, go right ahead.”

I don’t think Biden is calling the shots. His masters don’t think going into the midterms at DEFCON 2 would look good, although some in both parties seem to want a hot war.

Wasn’t there a blowout the other days with one of the Biden
people getting a tongue lashing or some wish by the leaders
of Poland who stated they never agreed to send planes in?

Now this idea that Biden put the kibosh on it? These people
can’t even keep up with their own game plan.

A few days after Blinken announced that Poland would privide the MIGs ,the pentagon announced that the US would not be involved in moving the planes to Ukraine, but these days, as you know, the pentagon is more political than ever. I strongly suspect that the Biden gang knew that the pentagon was going to veto such indirect US involvement in the air war. Maybe somebody at the pentagon convinced the Biden gang that it could backfire, or vice versa. They didn’t want Poland blaming Biden.

"Poland said eef that! You want us to supply the jets, fine! We’ll give them to you, and YOU can give them to Ukraine..."

Poland also added the condition that other NATO members give planes too. They were not going to go this alone. Period. THAT'S how little they trust us to back them up.

"And it’s the same logic employed by Romania..."

Interesting story about Romania returning a Mig to Ukraine.

"On Feb. 24, 2022, during the opening phases of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, a Ukrainian Air Force Su-27 Flanker was intercepted by two Romanian Air Force F-16 Fighting Falcons in QRA (Quick Reaction Alert) under NATO command after it intruded into the Romanian airspace at 06.15LT. The Flanker, fully loaded with six R-27 (AA-10 ALAMO) medium/extended-range Air-to-Air Missiles and four IR-guided R-73 (AA-11 ARCHER) AAMs, was escorted to the RoAF 95th Air Base in the northeastern Romanian city of Bacău, where it landed at 07.05LT."

I guess you were born yesterday. When China and the USSR were shipping tons of military equipment to North Vietnam that wasn’t an existential threat? You are being myopic and silly.

Was it an act of when the USSR and China both sent arms to North Vietnam?

My question is.

Why does a non NATO country be denied MiGs from a NATO country by the US. Is the “holier than thou” US have the final word.

Like Russia having the final word in the UN hearing against Russian invasion as to whether Russia ended to be dealt with by UN

re: NATO and Korea and Vietnam: that’s because it wasn’t an attack on the territory of a member state. Same thing with France’s & Britain’s colonial wars. The Algerian War was an internal insurrection and didn’t count for Article V, though if Egypt had attacked Algeria, as a part of France, it would have.

“When China and the USSR were shipping tons of military equipment to North Vietnam that wasn’t an existential threat?”

Apparently the US military did not think so. It was an act of war and we did nothing about it.

Meaning it's too late to stop Putin in Ukraine? Good chance you are right. I am not 100% sure. At least Blinken didn't trigger a US vs Russia war.... yet.

A lot of very dubious propaganda on all sides, as expected. But effective with some gullible people here (Not talking about you).

I may be wrong, but I believe Poland said no way before the US could take those comments back. What an embarrassment.

I appreciate the response.
