I work in fleet and the money cars are selling for at auction is insane

Gonna have to start taking my coil wire with me when I park. Wait. Does a 2012 Ram even have a coil wire? LOL! Of course not. Remove battery? Nah, won’t fit in pocket.

The vehicle I now have is far and away much more valuable to me still than it ever could be to anybody else. As long as it is running without trouble, and the necessary maintenance is kept up, it may very well be the last vehicle I shall ever buy.
Let my heirs collect on the market value.

It will be interesting to watch the impact of gas prices on the lower mileage vehicles.
There will be a lag effect on this.

Waiting on a break part for my car. Got a loaner. They told me it could be months before the part comes in. At least I’m only paying the tax.

Jeez. The vehicle I bought 18 months ago and has been driven less than 3,000 miles since then is now selling for 10K more than I bought it for.
Not that Iβd sell it. Itβs so comfortable I could drive it for 20 years and will try to do just that.

No there won’t. The price of even used high mpg vehicles is already insane and going even higher. You won’t save money changing vehicles even at $5-6 a gallon if the car costs $5000 more than it did two years ago anyway.
The real deciding factor is still maintenance.
Or whether you can afford a vehicle at all now, used or new.

I have a 2013 car I bought for 27K cash in 2015. I just looked it up and it’s selling for 24K. Of course, I’m not even considering selling it, as it is only at 1/3 of its life mileage wise and one of the better cars made.

I’d have to make sure I had my alarm clicker with me if I did that. Had a new battery put in several years ago and didn’t have the clicker with me. Every time they hooked it up the alarm would go off. I had to call Mrs rktman to bring me the clicker. The shop guys were NOT amused.

That’s the position we are in, too. Unfortunately, we have a pair of 2014 cars. We always tried to stagger the cars, but somehow reached retirement with two cars of the same model year.
I retired in 2017, my wife in 2021. When the stock market was roaring and inflation under control, we thought we MIGHT be able get one more replacement used car in the future, but that dream is now dashed (like most other financial dreams of retirement).
