Russia produced about 13% of the yearly production of world oil. Oil is fungible. If it is not sold to the USA and or Europe it will still be sold on the world market at its value. Not importing oil from Russia means nothing at all. It will still be sold on the world market. The only thing that will change is were the Russian tankers go to sell their oil and were Saudi tankers go to replace such. It is all the same.
What does make a difference is total world production to drive down prices and thus starve the Russian economy. We can do this by unlimited exploration and production and pressure on Saudi and Gulf States to increase production. President Reagan did this and due to price of oil the USSR economy collapsed as did the old Soviet Union.
Biden has asked Saudi and the Gulf States to increase production, and they refused. They see Biden as a weak and feckless leader. Biden has crippled our oil industry at home thus why should Saudi increase production?
What would have Trump done?
1. Drill and increase oil production.
2. Tell Saudi and the Gulf States to do the same or you will not get all those spare parts and training of your pilots that fly those F-16s and F-15s etc. In effect your Air Force ceases to exist without spare parts, ordinance, technical assistance and training. Said same would apply to their Air Defense systems and Army. They would see the wisdom of increasing oil production.
Then Russia collapses economically again as did the old USSR.
Venezuela, thanks to its miracle socialist government, no longer has the working infrastructure to produce the volume of oil needed.
