Incoming CNN boss Chris Licht plans to nix the network's left-leaning commentary when he assumes the role of president this May, insiders say, and has already engaged in talks with rival Fox News about halting its aggressive coverage of them.
Former CBS exec Licht, 50, who headed Stephen Colbert's Late Show for six years until it was announced he was replacing ousted boss Jeff Zucker last month, has already begun closed door conversations with key figures close to the conservative news network, two sources close to the matter told The Daily Beast Tuesday.
Licht reportedly told certain Fox reporters and agents to breathe a little easier because he is working towards a ceasefire after his network's unrelenting negative coverage of the competing news station.
The exec plans to push hosts like Don Lemon and Jim Acosta away from opinionated reporting that became especially prevalent during Donald Trump's election campaign and presidency. He wants to return to the station's roots as a hard-hitting news source, the insiders said.
Under Licht, the sources said, expect to see fewer partisan panels with outspoken anchors such as former Trump aide Alyssa Farah.
So far, the insiders' assertions have proved credible - on Sunday, there were notably no Fox mentions on CNN's flagship media program, Reliable Sources, with Brian Stelter, who last year penned a book; Hoax: Donald Trump, Fox News and the Dangerous Distortion of Truth.
Last week, after being announced as Zucker's successor following the honcho's ouster after an affair with a colleague, Licht sent a memo to his future staff, saying: 'I look forward to getting to know all of you and hearing your candid thoughts and feedback.
'Our viewers demand the truth from us, and I want to learn the truth from you.

Right, he’d have to fire everyone.
The Hate is there and that’s all they know.
This is rebrand failure. Trust us, because we said so.
They don’t have the brains for analysis.
.
Yeah, to think at the same time satellite and cable channels are dropping conservative stations like OAN and Newsmax and they'd love to drop FNC while they're at it. Leftists are quite insane.
You don’t need a cease fire agreement. Just stop saying stupid stuff. Duh.
If he really wanted to make the change to hard news it would be an easy thing to do.
Just fire and replace the entire ultra-left on-air mob of vicious idiots, their aides, researchers and support staffs.
I’ll start to believe it if they fire everyone and start from scratch.
CNN just needs to die, like all the other Big Media.
Nor have I.
And as long as Paul Ryan is sitting on their Board of Directors, I won’t be going back. That’s an etched in granite promise.
I remember the loud cheers across our Fighter Wing when the America hating Peter Arnett’s CNN broadcast went off the air courtesy of a precision air strike, kicking off Operation Desert Storm.
The only time I think about CNN is here on FR. This looks like the professional deckchair shuffling team entering the scene. As stated above this guy oversaw Colbert for 6 years. Somehow that doesn’t make me think anything substantive will happen. I’m sure there’ll be some new faces but thats about it and I’ll continue to only think about CNN when it pops up here on FR.
Thank you so much.
Malone is a very smart guy and may figure it out....
He needs to publicly fire everyone and publicly state why he did—the network was not news, it was propaganda—and that will end now.
The number of people watching now is so small that there’s potential for BIG ratings gains.
I’ll believe it when I see it. For now, my Tagline still applies.
And why would he need to negotiate with Fox News in order to move to truth-based reporting instead of agenda-based reporting?
