The Kremlin has announced its demands for ending the war in Ukraine:
-Ukraine must change its constitution to guarantee it won't join any "blocs", i.e. NATO + EU.
-Must recognise Crimea as part of Russia.
-Must recognise the eastern separatist regions as independent.— Patrick Reevell (@Reevellp) March 7, 2022

Putin ALREADY has control of areas he is demanding, and actually more area of Ukraine. If Kyiv falls, Ukraine will surrender.

If this is really what Russia is demanding (earlier to me it sounded like Russia was demanding unconditional surrender)
-Ukraine must change its constitution to guarantee it won't join any "blocs", i.e. NATO + EU.
-Must recognise Crimea as part of Russia.
-Must recognise the eastern separatist regions as independent.

Then this would be my counter offer.

I simply do not understand why Ukraine would want to join NATO or EU considering all the cultural filth that would bring with it. Maybe they'll have to learn the hard way.

And while this is going to sound completely crazy, I'm actually agreeing with my bete noire Ron Paul about something: NATO should have ended with the Cold War.

It’s a poison pill designed to be unacceptable to most Ukrainians but acceptable to Ukraine’s backers in the West who want to end the war, avoid unpopular economic effects (eg oil price), and avoid the risk of further escalation. The other clause is that Zelensky loses power and Russia gets to appoint Yuriy Boyko (or some other puppet) as the new defacto ruler. Even without the last two clauses, if Zelensky accepted this deal, Ukranians would show him the door.

Russia knows it won’t be accepted on those terms so they can frame it to the Russian public as the Ukrainians refusing a peace deal.

The neutrality clause to the constitution also has a no EU clause (no other bloc). Most Ukrainians want to become EU members, this clause would be unpopular and Ukraine would lose EU economic benefits. After this war, it’s likely that most Ukrainians also want to be NATO members to keep Russia coming back for more in the future.

That and Russia would achieve their publicly stated goals for the invasion, although not their real ones.

Russia proposed essentially the same deal before the invasion. Zelensky out, Russian puppet in, no NATO, no EU, independence for the statelets. The only difference is that Putin is not demanding that Ukraine become completely demilitarized. It wasn’t acceptable then, so it’s not acceptable now.

It will be interesting to see what the final ‘deal’ is.

Where is that listed? If that’s so, this is a propaganda ploy on the part of the devil’s spawn, putin.

“Never reward low life criminal scum by letting them keep the fruits of their criminal actions.”

I assume you are referring to Zelensky!

The Crimea has already voted overwhelmingly to be part of Russia. The Crimea has been part of Russia since the time of Catherine the Great.

“And what will Russia do if Ukraine accepts these propositions? What security guarantees does Ukraine get?”

Maybe the same guarantees as Russia got when they were promised that NATO would not expand if they agreed to a unified Germany in the 90s.

That worked out really well. Right?

“I’m for it, but I’m not in Ukraine….”

Me too!

While you and I are not in Ukraine, our tax money is surely being pushed over to that corrupt country (and 10% for the big guy).

“Putin deal for today also states he wants Russian puppet installed as Prime Minister for Ukraine and Zelinsky would lose power and would only be honorary President.”

Maybe not. If Zelensky, the comedian, survives maybe they give him western Ukraine to joke about if he agrees to neutrality there.

Yeah this sounds like a concession to me. If he thought he was winning he would want regime change if not Ukraine disbanded as a polity and made a part of Russia.

Since Russia broke its word when they convinced Ukrainians to give up their nukes, perhaps the west should give them back. That way Ukrainians can guarantee their own safety.

If Putin had simply rolled into and occupied the ethnic Russian border areas - and then stopped - he could have had everything he is now asking for without firing a shot.

He already has de facto possession of Crimea, and no one was putting any serious pressure on him to relinquish it.

Really stupid and hugely destructive miscalculations by Putin.
