Weren’t we hitching rides to the ISS before Musk came on the scene?
To: Jan_Sobieski
So what? We have Elon Musk who is building better launch vehicles than NASA ever dreamed of, and he is stepping up production. There are other civilian companies that are right behind him with new launch platforms. Screw Russia and it's rockets.
I've believed for some time that NASA stopped thinking outside the box. Their last was the Shuttle which has been shut down. Plus, they are pretty much now a woke equity bureaucracy of the fedgov. Pfft.

On paper the space shuttle was futuristic cool but it had a bunch of problems and it cost NASA a ton of capitol and set back more useful and practical lifting systems.

Shutting down the Shuttle was another proud achievement of the Obama/Biden Administration.

I love his response. I can think of plenty of our politicians and their assorted hangers on who must have high-powered brooms handy. We can start with the hags on the View and work our way up through the ranks to our VP. We can’t put Biden on a broom because he’d fall off.

Russian engines are, I’ve learned, the cheapest way to get to space. Space X is newer and better tech but costs more.
Screw ‘em.
BTW, any guitar players better stock up on tubes for their tube amps. They are dirty and hazardous to make and Russia’s a big supplier (Sovetek tubes). The Chinese made ones suck.

A space guy on TV said that the big thing is maintaining orbit. That was the Russians job. Since they just boosted it to a higher orbit, it will be fine for 3 months - after which someone is going to have to give it a boost again. Or the orbit will continue to decay to reentry.

I wondered since the start of us working with Russia on this, if it was wise.
For the exact scenario that is happening .
What do we need Russia?
Foolish.

Biden is okay with that, as long as they are “electric” brooms!
