Russian propaganda efforts have redoubled since Putin launched its aggression against Ukraine a week ago. Suddenly, a host of stories has appeared in conservative media that try to rally support for Vladimir Putin because he is allegedly fighting Nazis and the New Word Order in Ukraine. One of the worst examples is, perhaps, the Gateway Pundit, which has been duped into publishing stories by one Larry Johnson, whose only focus is the glorification of Russia and the smearing of Ukraine as a nation of Nazis.
We could respond by advising Russia and its advocates to worry about their own neo-Nazi infestation, but since this smear has now become widespread, it is prudent to address it.
The Nazi smear is a twisted but effective technique used by Russian propaganda and our left-wing media in equal abundance. Russia has been doing it since Stalin made it "a thing." This smear is effective because its victims try to distance themselves from one another and sometimes join in accusations, hoping others won't think of them as Nazis. It's also effective because it's extremely dirty. Trying to debunk it makes one dive deep into repulsive dirt.
Remember how Trump was smeared over Charlottesville — where did those Neo-Nazis even come from? Remember Nick Sandmann? Remember how Kyle Rittenhouse "became" a neo-Nazi for shooting at violent thugs in self-defense? Of course you do. But somehow no one remembers it when exactly the same technique is used on Ukraine.

They carried out the coup in 2014 as well. I know a guy whi who goes and spent a lot of time with them over the years.
Nobody is trying to erase facts, but they are calling out the lies of people who say it is appropriate to invade Ukraine, a nation of 44 million people, because there is a neo-nazi group with something like 1000 to 2000 members in Ukraine.
Using that logic our nation should be invaded too because we certainly have more than 2000 neo-nazis running around in the United States. We probably have five or ten times as many neo-nazis here.
Not only that but we have tens of thousands of violent gang members who kill people, shoot up neighborhoods, traffic drugs, engage in human trafficking, and do the same kind of awful things that the media accuses the Azov battalion of.
But only a liar or an idiot would claim that having some group of people with despicable ideas who may even engage in criminal behavior is a reason to invade and conquer a foreign country.
In the US, we don't have a military unit that recruits neo-nazis. The US has issues on an individual level, not an institutional level, as the Ukraine seems to have.
Obviously I want Russia defeated, but I honestly would be fine with Azov being put on the front lines and brutally decimated.
Russia still has no right to use violence and armed forces to invade a neighboring country regardless of what they think of Ukraine’s government.

Exactly!
It is like invading the USA because of Antifa and Hunter Biden are here!
If they’d display the Jolly Roger, they’d be pirates. Obvious!
Is that the NATO flag on the left? Maybe they are hardcore far-right ultra-NATOists.
Interesting how the Japanese Meatball and Rising Sun flags still fly. Japan was a terror(1930-1945) before the Nazis took over Germany.
“attacks from Poland”
That attack was on a German radio station by Nazis dressed in Polish uniforms. They even left behind a dead “Pole”, a German man in Polish uniform killed by an injection.
Larry Johnson got it right. He must be destroyed. 😆
If you bothered to read this article, you would find that all you wrote is exactly the false Russian propaganda. The article debunks all you stupidities!
There are Neo-Nazis in Russia too. I would guess, a lot more of them!
Will they have their parade this year?
My Grandmother was one of those Ukrainian workers in Germany.
Scratch any dictator, you’ll find a fascist.
No one believes most of this garbage except the InfoWars crowd.
And there are neo-Nazi’s everywhere...
It’s not a smear. Azov Nazi batallions have been wreaking havok in the East for a decade. The State Department pusahed out a neo-Nazi leader from a coalition of parties when the engineered their 2014 coup. Is Zelenskyy or the government neo-Nazi. Of course not, propaganda. But it is NOT a “smear.”
Gateway Pundit should have been long-ago banned from FR. It has always been nothing but a source of half truths and conspiracy nonsense.
Exactly. This is the line that struck me from the article:
"The fact is, Russian aggression was the only reason Azov was formed in the first place, so the Kremlin has only itself to blame for it."
So he can't decide between whether "Azov hardly has any neo-Nazis in it" or "Even if they are a bunch of neo-Nazis, it's Russia's fault!"
The warmongers get more shameless every day.
I read a book recently about Berlin during the post WWII occupation, and read something I’d never heard of before.
IMMEDIATELY upon taking Berlin, Stalin had people find Hitler’s body and identify it. They found the name of Hitler’s dentist, found a dental assistant who worked for him, made her take them to the dentist office, found the dental records, identified the body, the took the dental assistant to the gulag, so she could not talk, where she remained for years. Her name was Käthe Heusermann.
Stalin knew immediately that Hitler was gone, but wanted to use the idea he might still be alive as the bogeyman to attack any opposition as Nazis seeking to restore Hitler to power. Which of course he did.
Well, Alex Jones did predict the war in Ukraine:
